Pros: a good cartoon show
Cons: not exactly suited for the same age of children has Pokemon.
The Bottom Line: talk about a show with split personalities.

| tommy_lop's Full Review: Yu-Gi-Oh! |
All right when I first heard of Yu-gi-oh, I thought now there's a ridicules sounding name for a show. Well I started watching it and the show actually turn out to be good.
Story.
The story follows the adventures of Yugi Moto and his friends while they play thorugh the duelist kingdom card tournament. To win the tournament Yugi need's to win 10 star chips. The prize for Yugi for winning is to get his grandpa's soul back from Pegasus the evil creator of the duel monster. Helping him out on the way is his millennium puzzle and a mysterious spirit that is locked away in it. The spirit comes out to help him in the time of need and gives Yugi one heck of a split personality problem.
Characters.
Yugi
Yugi is a small, quiet, and wimpy kid that is considered a pro at duel monsters. Has a gift his grandpa gave him a strange puzzle for Yugi to complete, when Yugi completed it he was granted the strange magical powers inside the puzzle.
Yami Yugi.
The spirit that lives inside the puzzle that comes out when ever Yugi calls out for the power inside the puzzle. Yami Yugi is totally opposite of Yugi and he is very determine and honorable. He also knows a lot about duel monsters, when Yami Yugi comes out Yugi gets taller and meaner looking, but whether his friends notice the physical change is unknown, but they certainly pick up on the personality change. While Yami Yugi is usually out to help he can be a poor loser is isnt afraid to fight to the death, whether it be Yugi or the opponent this can leave Yugi struggling to regain control before he does something awful.
Tea.
Tea first became friends with Yugi when she got a note that there was a warehouse where she could open up a dance house, but it was trap set by a mugger. Yugi try to save her only to be knocked out, which is when Yami Yugi stepped in. Yami Yugi convinced the mugger to play a draw the highest card game with him. The mugger not knowing the danger of playing with Yami Yugi decided to humor him and draw, he lost the draw and Yami Yugi knocked him out. Since then Tea has always supported Yugi and she has come to the dueling kingdom to cheer Yugi on. She is also the first person to suspect the existence of Yami Yugi.
Joey.
Joey is Yugi's best friend and because his sister needed an operation Yugi gave Joey one of his star chips so Joey could participate and win the 3 million prize money. While Joey is a bit of a rookie at duel monsters he was train by Yugi's grandpa and quickly gets a hang of it. Being able to beat even the intercontinental champion Bandit Keith.
Triston.
Triston is also one of Yugi's friend, and he came along with Yugi to cheer him on. While he and Joey once picked on Yugi they all 3 became friends when Yugi took a beating for them by a school bully. He cheers Yugi on while making sure Joey doesnt slack off and tries to convince Joey not to take on opponents that he doesnt stand a chance against.
Bakura.
Bakura came to the duelist kingdom just for the fun of it. Tea sees firsts seeds him when they first arrive at the kingdom, later they bump into each other while camping out. At that time Bakura challenges Yugi and his friends to a friendly duel using a combine deck of cards . It was a trap by a demon that was inside Bakura millennium ring, Yugi and his friends souls where then trapped inside the deck by the demon, who then try to lay claim to Yugi's Millennium puzzle. It was Yami Yugi to the rescue who through the help of Yugi and his friends who where trapped inside the cards Yami Yugi was able to get the real Bakura back and send the demon to the card grave yard. After being return to normal Bakura join Yugi's cheer leading group.
Seto Kaiba.
The world Champion at duel monster who is ruthless and cold blooded at first. His Kaiba cooperation has invented the duel machines that create life like holograms of the cards. He starts the whole mess when he comes looking for the 4th blue eyes white dragon at Yugi's grandpa's game store. When Grandpa refuses to sell it to him he then challenges him to a duel with his new duel machine. Grandpa loses and Kaiba rips up the blue eyes card. Yugi decides to challenge Kaiba to a duel, Yugi quickly finds himself out gunned and out matched by Kaiba's blue eyes white dragons. That is in till he draws all 5 pieces to exoidia the only monster in duel monster that is capable of giving out a guaranteed win. Kaiba asks Yugi how he could defeat him, to help him find the answer Yami Yugi decides to take out all the evil in Kaiba's soul. Later on Kaiba's brother is kidnapped by Pegasus and Kaiba set's out to rescue him, being to impatient to go through the tournament Kaiba decides to find his own way to Pegasus. This of course leads him into a couple of encounters and more duels with Yugi.
Pegasus.
The villain of Yugioh, Pegasus invented the game duel monsters based on the shadow games, a game played in ancient Egypt using real magic. He is searching for the magic inside the millennium items so he can use the magic to release havoc onto the world. He has already acquired the Millennium eye, which can read minds and steal soles and put them into cards. When Pegasus isnt out trying to steal soles, trying a hostal take over of Kaiba corp, or making live a living hell for Yugi he is usually drinking juice, reading comics and watching Saturday morning cartoon shows.
Duel monsters.
The game of Duel monsters that is in the series is a game that pitts to opponents against each other. Each opponent puts a monster card on the table in attack or defense mode, then they try to increase their power through the use of magic and trap cards. The main point of the game is to defeat enough of the opponents monsters to get their live points down to zero.
Animation and voices.
The animation in Yugioh isnt exactly anything to write home about. The characters look like the typical anime style with the unusually big eyes, and the scenery and backgrounds are pretty well done. The monsters are also pretty well done, looking like they do on the cards from the game. The only time the special effects or the animation really improve is when a monster dies I like the animation of the monsters shattering and disappearing from the field.
Yugioh is dubbed by 4 kids entertainment, and you can tell. A lot of the voices in the show have appeared in Pokemon, For example Kaiba is done by the same person who does Brock, in the exact same way except that it has an unfriendly air about it. The voices are OK but there nothing to write home about it.
Violence.
Well Yugioh is definitely a lot more darker and violent then Pokemon, but it's far from being DBZ. No one ever dies in Yugioh, rather they or there soles get sent to the shadow realm, a realm in which the millennium puzzles can bend reality.
The only real violence come with the card duels in which the holographic versions of the card come to life and start hitting each other with swords, clubs, and fists. But this is bloodless and all that happens is the monsters shatter and disappear off the field.
In the end Yugioh is a pretty good cartoon show but it is for a bit older audience then that of Pokemon.
