Pros:Still A Quality Coffee and Readily Available
Cons:None of these large commercial brands are as good as they once were.
The Bottom Line: Relative to all the old big names from the past, I find Yuban has held onto their quality better than the others.
I really like this as far as the old commercial brands of coffee goes. Back in the days before Starbucks, names like Maxwell House, and Folgers ruled the roost. Yuban always cost more than the others, but you knew you were getting something special. It brewed a little darker, tasted a little richer, and just seemed to outclass the others. Back then that was really quite a coup. The other big commercial brands were actually quality products. These days, you and i could probably make better coffee than most of the big names, who have succumbed to lower grade beans, and types and varieties that they would not have touched years ago.

Yuban has, thanks to The World Market conditions as of late, also been forced to downgrade a bit. True to their original roots they have at least gone the extra mile to pick the very best of the mediocre. In return, I find that Yuban is one of the very few brands of coffee from my past that I still hold some affinity for. I can fill up my Stanley vaccuum bottle thermos with this stuff and be content enough. The moment I have to fill my cup with the stuff at the office---usually one of the earlier mentioned brands that once had a semblance of flavour years ago, I can immediately tell the difference.
Yuban now comes in a few varieties. Whether I find myself drinking what they refer to as "Original" (not quite), or "Dark Roast" I find that my tastebuds are satisfied. Sure, it ain't Starbucks, but it is a quality coffee that can be bought in decent quantities without breaking the bank. When this stuff goes on sale for $6.99 in the 33 oz. can I tend to snap up several of them.
This review is kind of Lean because Yuban simply holds the line as best as they can in today's market place. It's not very Mean because this brand tries hard to hang onto the special niche that they originally built for themselves.
