Pros: A solid, substantial beer that goes down smooth without being light
Cons: None of the microbrew funny label distinction
The Bottom Line: Yuengling Black and Tan gives richness without bitterness, smoothness with substance, in a way that no other black and tan beer I've ever had can do.

| jcgrow's Full Review: Yuengling Black and Tan |
The first thing I should tell you about myself is that I am a big fan of Guinness Stout. I love a dark beer, and tend to be unimpressed with most of the standard, lighter beers. It's frustrating to me in the summer time to see all the lite beers, so pale and sweet that they're practically lemonade.
The trouble with Guinness is that it demands that its presence be attended to. It isn't an easy brew to get along with. The sharp taste of a Guinness can, after a while, start to feel like a high, nasal voice singing along with a rich, deep base.
Sometimes I want a dark beer to be smooth. I want the richness of a stout and the relaxed feeling of an ordinary beer.
Yuengling Black and Tan is the first black and tan beer I have found that pulls it off. Picture the feeling you get when you lay down under a nice, thick quilt in the middle of the winter, transformed into a beer. That's what a Yuengling Black and Tan is like. It's substantial, but not at all harsh.
Yuengling Black and Tan certainly isn't fancy. It doesn't have a creative label, like Magic Hat. Drinking a Yuengling won't give you any of the status of an obscure microbrew.
Then again, I don't drink beer for the label, or for status with beer snobs. Yuengling Black and Tan may not be a fancy beer, but it is good.
That's all I need from a beer: Satisfaction without problems. Yuengling Black and Tan gives me the comfort of a few minutes of rest, without anything to interfere. I think that's just about as good as a beer can get.
