countrygyrl's Full Review: Zapzyt Maximum Strength 10% Benzoyl Peroxide Acne ...
I have oily skin that is not really blemish prone but every now and again, maybe once a month, I get one popping up.
When I was a Mary Kay "lady" I used their acne treament gel ( a 5% benzoyl peroxide treatment) which I like very much, but now that I no longer "do" Mary Kay I don't want to spend $7.00 on a zit cream.
Zapzyt is recommend by Paula Begoun, the cosmetic cop, although she does state that the 10% benzoyl peroxide is strong. I tend to trust her recommendations, she has not let me down yet.
Zapzyt comes in a 1 oz. white squeeze tube with bright orange letters packaged in a box. It retails for a little over $3.00 at Walmart.
Zapzyt is a creamy white "gel", actually to me its more like a thick lotion or cream. It has no noticable scent. Zapayt caused me no irritation or burning sensation when I applied it like clearasil overnight acne treatment gel did.
My 12 year old daughter tried zapzyt and did not like it- she thought it stung and prefers the clearasil gel, (go figure- kids!))
The directions say you can use zapzyt up to 3 times a day. I don't, nor do I recommend to. I only apply zapzyt at night after cleansing and toning . I rub a thin layer over my blemish and let it go.
Zapzyt dries to a whitish "film" and while they claim you can use it under makeup I think the film may be noticable but I have never tried it.
I have to say when I notice a blemish and apply zapzyt it will be completely "dried up" in 2 days.
I am really pleased with zapzyt. Its very economical and does a fabulous job of clearing blemishes. It does have one small fault though.
Recently, in the heat and humidity we have had in my area I have had a series of 3 blemishes in a row along my chin and jaw. I applied a "swipe" of zapzyt along the whole "infected" area. As I knew, the blemishes were dried up in 2 days but in the area where I had applied the cream and had no blemishes I had very dry flaky skin.
I know now to ONLY apply zapzyt directly to the blemish.
All in all, zapzyt is a fabulous product and I will always have this "zit cream" in my medicine cabinet. I think it would benefit anyone who has any amount of blemishes as long as the use it sparingly and only apply it to the blemish, as overuse can cause dryness.
