Mommy3S's Full Review: Shirley Mozelle - Zack's Alligator
I love buying books for my children and often stop at yard sales with the sole purpose of buying more books. That is how I found Zack's Alligator. As I was searching through the children's books, there was a book that really caught my eye. As I looked through it's ages, the story intrigued me. I brought it home for my 3 year old.
Zack's Alligator was not the only book that I brought home that day, but my daughter found it and begged me to read it to her. The cover had caught her eye as well.
As we sat down and began to read, we noticed that her 7 year old brother was joining us. Soon, the entire family was gathered around for the story of Zack and Bridget.
The book begins with Zack getting a large box in the mail. Excitedly he rips off the paper, untied the ribbon and peeked inside. What he found was a keychain, in the shape of an alligator, and a note from his Uncle Jim. The note instructed Zack to water Bridget, so Zack filled the sink with water and dropped the keychain in. All of a sudden the keychain begins to move and grow. Bridget quickly grows too big for the sink so Zack moves her to the tub, where she quickly grows over the sides.
Once Bridget was finished growing, she asked Zack for some food. Zack quickly feeds her a Meat Loaf Special then they head out the door for a walk.
Outside, Bridget wrestles with the garden hose then takes off down the road when she sees the postal truck. Bridget, being a wild keychain and not knowing about cars, attacks the postal truck's tire. The post man drives off mumbling about "dogs being bad enough..." Then Bridget found the park. She played on the swings, the monkey bars, the teeter totter and the merry-go-round. Together, Zack and Bridget had an exciting day. Soon, Bridget began to shrink. By the time they arrived home, Bridget was a keychain again.
Now there is more to this story than just the basics which I have shared. Zack's Alligator is a delightful story that captivates the entire family. Shirley Mozelle did an excellent job in writing this story and the illustrations by James Watts are fantastic.
This is a book that we have read over and over again. My daughter even requests it at bedtime and chooses to read it even after I leave the room. I highly recommend Zack's Alligator for any child. It would make a great gift to any child's library.
