(originally written July 2002 before there was a good place to put this) I got Poison Ivy gardening about two weeks ago. It took me a few days to realize that the itchy bumps were not bug bites but poison ivy, so by the time I told anyone or went to the doctor my entire wrist/forearm was covered and painful.
A friend of mine said to run and find the closest place that carried Zanfel so I checked their web page (www.zanfel.com) and went to get some. It was expensive (about $35) but I was in some serious pain so I figured this friend of mine wasn't someone to get this excited about something that would not work. I was skeptical but decided to try it.
I had stopped by to get it on the way to lunch so I went in to apply it while we were waiting for a table. About 10 minutes into lunch I realized that I was no longer itching or in pain. I was AMAZED! And the next day the swelling and redness was about 25% of the size it had been the day before.
Apllication is very simple. You wet the area, and take about 1 inch of the zanfel and rub it in your hands with water and scrub this into affected areas - it is sort of gritty and actually feels very good on itchy areas and has a cooling feel. You leave it on for about a minute then wash it all away.
I only used two applications and now 4 days after my first application my poison ivy has been reduced to some light pink lines that don't itch or bother me at all and seem to be healing quite well.
The cause of the rash, blisters, and infamous itch is urushiol, a chemical in the sap of poison ivy, oak and sumac plants that causes an allergic reaction. Zanfel washes this away so that you can heal. And you can use it anytime you have poison ivy as opposed to some products that are only good if you use it within 24 hours.
I can't remember the last time I was this excited about a product but I want to make sure everyone knows about this stuff!
