This is hands down my favorite restaurant in all of New York City. They serve continental Mexican fare (no burritos here). A great date place, they have a small bar upon entry (great margaritas), coat check, bright decorations and intimate seating on two levels. Their coconut shrimp is fabulous and you must try the creamy rice but the star of Zarela's is their cheesecakes. They are so light they dissolve on your tongue. My favorites are the key lime cheesecake in raspberry sauce and the pumpkin cheesecake in walnut sauce. They also have a decent macaroon desert.
This place can get very packed at times making the noise level a little higher than I like but the food is worth the hassle. Service is excellent.
Reservations are recommended. If you don't have a reservation and arrive early they will seat you but expect to be rushed out before prime time. Prices are very reasonable. Expect 12-18$ for an entree 6$ for dessert.
