| xgollum's Full Review: Zeek's Pizza |
The first two (Pegasus and Atlantic Street) are tied, but Zeek's is a darn good contender. An old favorite from my days at Seattle Pacific University, Zeek's has an eclectic feel, excellent toppings, and a unique flavor.
Both Zeek's restaurants have varied and distinct wall hangings like posters, album covers, and so on. The chairs are as often as not mismatched with the tables and each other. The employees themselves are generally the young and hip variety, though usually without the attitude that comes along with it. The service is fast (the pizzas are waiting to have slices taken out of them) but not the point of making you feel rushed or unwanted.
I don't know what it is about Zeek's that distances it from competitors, I think it's a combination of crust and sauce that makes it unlike other pizza's in the city. There are plentiful toppings, piled (I say piled) on top. Both locations (downtown and Fremont) serve pizza by the slice for lunch, but the one by SPU didn't used to serve by the slice for dinner, which got a little pricey. Maybe they do now. A slice is ~$3, and their largest pizza is usually towards the high end of the price bracket at $24. More than you might pay elsewhere, but pretty darn good, and as big as a Big New Yorker or a little bigger, so you get a lot for your cash.
They usually keep about five pizzas in the warming window for slicing for lunch, one special (like barbeque chicken or some such), one pepperoni, one cheese, one veggie, and one something creative they're likely to toss together on the spot. They have all the typical pizza toppings you'd expect, and all the high falutin' ones as well, like artichoke hearts, goat cheese, and other things I don't pay a lot of attention to because I'm low brow and don't eat them. If you want your fancy pizza, though, they got it here, I promise.
They have a fairly decent menu of drinks as well (beer, etc), but all they serve is pizza. Maybe breadsticks, if you ask nice, but no pasta, no sandwiches, no panini. Sorry, they're commited to their pizza.
If you're a connisseur like I am, you'll want to try the best of everything and decide it for yourself.
Until I explored the city a little more thoroughly, I thought this was the best pizza in the city. It's still pretty darn good, and a nice variant from the norm, but it's just not quite as great as some of the others I found since.
Thanks for reading.
