| den_inte_dod's Full Review: Zero Ripper Chris Cole Mini Complete Skateboard 7.... |
When it comes to high quality complete skateboards, no other brand can compare to Zero. Their skateboards are lightweight, durable, and very have lots of pop. They are also fairly easy to find to skateboard shops, since they are some of the most popular professional skateboards out there. This Chris Cole pro model Zero skateboard caught my eye in the local skateboard shop, and it was priced at $79.99. I had ridden a few Zero skateboards before, so I knew that this skateboard would be worth at least that much!
DECK
If you haven't already noticed, this Zero deck has a really cool design on the bottom of it. Why do they put the graphics on the bottom of the skateboards? The graphics are printed on the bottom so that they can apply the grip tape on the top, which is can be bought in many different colors, but it's usually found in black. The grip tape on this skateboard is black, but it would be pretty neat if it had diagonal blue stripes on it as well. The words "Chris Cole Zero" take up two of the stripes on the graphics, but it didn't take long for them to get scraped off by boardslides and noseslides. This deck had a lot of pop, and I could ollie very high when riding at fast speeds. It was also one of the lightest Zero skateboards I had ever ridden.
TRUCKS
The trucks were silver, which kind of makes the bottom of the skateboard deck look funky because of the deck's black and blue graphics. Oh well! These trucks were darn good, and I mastered my 5-0 grinds with them. After intense riding, the kingpin wore down a little bit, but they were excellent for the time they lasted. They were easy to adjust, and I could tighten them up when they started to loosen up a tad. They had strong, black bushings that were made of some of the best urethane available. Eventually, they began cracking, but that wasn't a problem since I had my Doh Doh's handy.
WHEELS
These wheels were tee-riffic! Their colors matched up well with the graphics on the deck, even though the word "Zero" was written in the punk font on the wheels, instead of the bold slanted font on the deck. They were 53 millimeters in diameter, which is a great size wheel for both street and vert skating. Like the many other sets of Zero wheels I've ridden, these didn't chip at all. They stayed smooth and fast, just how I like 'em! After riding them at very fast speeds for a long time, they shrunk a little, but you can expect that out of any set of wheels! They were very soft, so I could switch out the bearings with ease.
BEARINGS
The bearings were rated ABEC-5, and they rolled very smoothly. They had see-through bearing shields, so I could tell if there was a build-up of dirt and grime inside the bearings. When there was, I could clean them in seconds. The bearing shields were very easy to pop out, and they didn't bend like a lot of other bearing shields do. Bending the bearing shields can permanently damage the interior part of the bearing, and it can leave harmful scrapes and scratches on the balls. These bearings helped me pick up speed when I "dropped-in" on quarter-pipes and half-pipes. I got asked by at least 4 different people at the skatepark what kind of bearings I was riding!
FINAL THOUGHTS
For all of the punk rockin' skateboarders out there, this skateboard's graphics will fit you well. Heck, when I rode this skateboard, I felt like I was back in the late 80's! You can be the center of attention at the skatepark with this skateboard and its flashy, vibrant colors! If you like riding skateboards with fast wheels, lots of concave, and awesome graphics, you should give this one a try! Zero or die!
Always remember to...
SKATE SAFE!!!
