Whenever I go to Whole Foods Market Place with my fiancé, I always stop by the Whole Body Department to see if anything new came in that my friend LJ would recommend for me. I have been trying out new cosmetics and skin care since I started writing on Epinions for reviews. It has been very eye opening for me as well as just plain fun.
There was one company that she said I hadnt tried yet, mostly because they are so expensive, but she recommended them. The company is named Zia and many of you may or may not have heard of them. Zias products are just like Burts Bees products in the way that they are not tested on animals and there is an array of different goods to try from. I decided to pick up a few things and one of them was the Zia Fresh Papaya Enzyme Peel Treatment.
The Zia Fresh Papaya Enzyme Peel Treatment comes in two sizes; one is .25 fl oz and costs $3.49 and the other is 1.5 fl oz and costs $20.95. Now do you see what I mean about the cost of product? It is expensive and my initial thought was, Is it really worth it? Of course I chose to buy the miniature .25 fl oz to see if I liked the product before spending what I would call a fortune on a small little jar.
The Zia Fresh Papaya Enzyme Peel Treatment is in a small round plastic container and when you open it up it is dark, yellow green. It does not smell like Papaya to me or my fiancé. It smells like a cosmetic treatment normally would. The instructions on the tiny little box were as follows:
Instructions: Spread a quarter-sized amount over damp face and neck. Leave on for 20 to 40 minutes. Dampen with a few drops of water and massage gently. Rinse thoroughly with warm water.
As I took a quarter-sized quantity into my hand and began to rub over my damp face as I had just cleansed it, the Zia Fresh Papaya Enzyme Peel Treatment went on smoothly. When mixed with a little water the Zia Fresh Papaya Enzyme Peel Treatment became whiter or lighter in color as you rubbed it over your skin. I didnt do my neck, just my face as I have scars on my neck that I have been using another skin care product on that area which I did not want to interfere with. When you finish spreading the Zia Fresh Papaya Enzyme Peel Treatment around your face, you are left with a sticky, gooey face with spots of light white and clear all over.
After the Zia Fresh Papaya Enzyme Peel Treatment has been on your face for 20-40 minutes it turns completely clear over your skin. I left the Zia Fresh Papaya Enzyme Peel Treatment on my face for 30 minutes. Now here is where I was slightly confused. In the past, and I will admit candidly that I am not great at knowing a lot about beauty products, but I thought a peel meant that it peels off of your skin after being set. I thought it was odd that you just wash it off and yet they still call it the Zia Fresh Papaya Enzyme Peel Treatment. Then again it didnt smell like Papaya either so I shouldnt have been that surprised.
What is Zia Fresh Papaya Enzyme Peel Treatment supposed to do?
1) Gently dissolves dead surface skin
2) Improves skin texture and tautness
3) Natural alternative to Retin-A (taken from box)
What did Zia Fresh Papaya Enzyme Peel Treatment do for me?
Well my skin texture was smoother after washing the treatment off of my face. As I am only 28, I wouldnt really be able to compare on tautness. I did notice my skin to feel and look clearer though then from when I had originally started this project 30 minutes ago. I used Retin-A when I was a teenager and even in my early 20s for acne so I am not surprised that Zia Fresh Papaya Enzyme Peel Treatment was an alternative to it. Retin-A always slightly burned my face when initially applied onto my face. The Zia Fresh Papaya Enzyme Peel Treatment did the same for the first few minutes. It didnt bother me, but it was noticeable. There was a slight burning sensation there in a few spots.
I have to admit that I am not so sure about spending $3.49 on a .25 fl oz jar of Zia Fresh Papaya Enzyme Peel Treatment. It did help with my skin but not such a noticeable difference that it made me want to purchase it again. I liked that it was all natural and no animal testing was done. I just was kind of up in the air about whether this was a great product or not. Yes, it did what it had set out to do, but there are also other much less expensive products that can probably achieve the same purpose.

Final Thoughts on Zia Fresh Papaya Enzyme Peel Treatment
The Zia Fresh Papaya Enzyme Peel Treatment left my skin feeling refreshed and smooth. I have used other mask treatments by Alba Botanica or Burts Bees that have also accomplished the same thing. I felt the cost of Zia Fresh Papaya Enzyme Peel Treatment was very steep for the average budget. The Zia Fresh Papaya Enzyme Peel Treatment was a different product that I am glad I tried but I dont think I will be running back to the store to purchase it again. There are too many other products that are much cheaper or you can get more for our $3.49 that I would be more interested in buying.
I respect Zia, the company, as they have a cause that they are fighting in Tibet and obviously do good with their profits. I also respect that they do not test on animals as well.
As for Zia Fresh Papaya Enzyme Peel Treatment I could take it or leave it. If it was given to me as a present I would gladly accept it. If I was at the store looking to replenish my skin care products, I probably wont pick it up again. It comes down to expense for me and what you are receiving in return. I dont feel as if I was receiving enough in return for .25 fl oz at $3.49.
If you are interested in Zia Fresh Papaya Enzyme Peel Treatment, I strongly suggest the smaller size before spending $20.95 on the 1.5 fl oz. I did not have any side effects at all and it is for all skin types. I will leave the decision to you as to whether you should go buy it as I dont think I got the bang for my buck.
Until next time,
K Parsons
