| Freak369's Full Review: Zoneperfect Bars Fudge Gram Cracker 1 Bar |
The diet and supplement industry is a multi billion dollar a year business and with products like the Zone Perfect Fudge Graham Bar, its easy to understand and make sense of those numbers. This series of bars have a great taste, deliver a good portion of the RDA [recommended daily allowance] of some vitamins and minerals and are can help save you if you are tempted to go completely off your diet and dive into a bowl of ice cream, reach for a Big Mac or devour a box of cereal. When I have a cheat day or feel the need for something sweet Ive been reaching for the Zone Perfect bars more and more lately. With so many different flavors to choose from there is bound to be a flavor that will appeal to you.
What Is It?
The Zone Perfect Bar is structured on the Zone principal of a diet that consists of an intake of 40% carbohydrates, 30% protein and 30% fat. The Zone diet works for some people and for others it is a complete flop. I wont say anything bad about the basis of the diet other than it is something that just wont work for me. These are not meal replacement, low carb, post work out or high protein bars they are simply something to kill off a craving or hold you over until your next meal. One of the major problems with the sports nutrition market is that people assume that all bars are for diets or meal replacements, that just isnt the case. Call it a tasty snack, a healthy candy bar or even something to get you over the PMS hump whatever you choose to label it one thing is for sure, it tastes a lot better than other nutritionally comparable bars.
Taste
Ive only tried these a few times and they were good, but not one of my top choices. My youngest and oldest son have picked these as their favorites and like to eat them with mint chocolate chip ice cream to get the grasshopper cookie flavor. I know that by adding the ice cream you are completely defeating the purpose of eating the bar, but they are active kids and I would rather spend money on these bars than the alternative junk food. My sons say that they taste a little like the Keebler chocolate cover graham cracker cookies sold in the grocery store but I say they taste more like a blend between a sugarless graham cracker and a rocky road mix. The ingredients list marshmallow bits but Ive noticed that some bars have a lot of them scattered around the bar and others only have a few specks around the edges. The smell is rather strange, the first time I took a sniff it reminded me of burnt popcorn. Soy nuggets help to give this a nice solid crunch as well as something that youll have to chew for a little while. It isnt extremely hard but dont expect to take a bit, chew it a few times and swallow it.
Nutritional Values
On the front of the package youll see the words Contains 3 mg of Omega 3 as well as with 16 g protein. This is a great advertising pitch but without going into detail about why these are worth mentioning most people who are just getting into the fitness craze or dont know how these two can help the body it seems like a waste of ink. The Omega 3 has been tested [with varying results] to prevent heart disease and joint degeneration. Since the bar doesnt imply that the Omega 3 can help prevent these health issues it is up to you to come to your own conclusion however since you are only dealing with 3 milligrams I cant see it doing much good or much harm. This isnt a diet bar so please dont think that by eating this you will lose weight. You need to exercise, drink plenty of water, allow your body to recover from workouts and have a well structured diet. As a whole the bar is good for people of all ages providing that there arent any issues with allergies to the ingredients.
Ingredients
Soy Protein Nuggets, Corn Syrup, Chocolate Coating, Milk Protein Isolate, Sunflower Oil, Marshmallow Pieces, Fructose. In addition to these ingredients there is also 2% or less of the following: Cocoa Butter, Ascorbic Acid, Gellan Gum, Glycerin, Oat Bran, Soy Lecithin, Magnesium Oxide, Ascorbyl Palmitate, D-Alpha Tocopheryl Acetate, Thiamin Mononitrate, Niacinamide, Zinc Oxide, Fish Oil, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Riboflavin, Vitamin A Palmitate, Chromium Chloride, Sodium Molybdate, Folic Acid, Sodium Molybdate, Biotin and Cyanocobalamin.
It is also important to note that the package states that the product may contain peanuts. This is something that people with allergies should be made well aware of before they purchase and eat these bars. Please check with your doctor or allergist to see if any of the listed ingredients on the package could affect you in any way. The same could be said for those that are lactose intolerant, please check with a qualified health care professional about the contents of this bar.
The Bottom Line
My boys really like this bar so Ill continue to buy it for them until they tired of the flavor. They arent really ones to ask for candy or sweets that often, they would rather have a protein or supplement bar, popcorn or frozen juice bar. These are great for people who are on the go and want to try to stick with a diet plan or just need to satisfy a craving for chocolate. If I had to judge this purely on taste I would give it a 7 out of 10 but if you ask my boys they would give it a 10. You can find these at most health food markets and sports supplement stores, selected grocery stores and places like Wal-Mart and Target located with either the diet aids or vitamins. Prices vary from place to place but generally they can be found in the .99 cents to $1.29 price range. They are also available in multi packs featuring assorted flavors or case of twelve [one flavor per case].
