Pros:It chops.
Cons:If you have to chop by hand, you might as well use a knife.
The Bottom Line: While I don't care too much for the product, it does chop food. It just isn't as fast or as functional as it claims to be.
I thought this chopper would revolutionize my life. I was wrong. I mean, it does an OK job, but it's not a life or time saver, in my opinion.
I bought this from Crate & Barrel and this is how the object is described:
"Compact precision. Swiss tools are longtime favorites of leading chefs. Mini chopper with push top is fast and functional for chopping onions, garlic, herbs, even nuts; removable base catches the contents. Dishwasher safe."
In theory, this little gadget seems perfect. There are blades that come out of the body of the chopper each time you press down. After it is depressed, the blades go back inside the body of the gadget and rotate so when it is depressed again, the blades come out at a different angle to promote a better chop. Well, that's the theory. While the blades go in and out of the body of the gadget just fine, they are not as sharp as I would like them to be. I have to spend more time chopping my food than I should have to. Also, one would think that because everything is enclosed and the blades cover most of the surface area, all would be chopped evenly. This is not the case. The blades don't cover the entire surface area of the bottom and I have to stir things around to make sure everything is chopped. This product isn't fast nor is it functional.
Items I have used the chopper for: onions, garlic, walnuts, fresh herbs. The chopper can cut all of these products but it doesn't do well with nuts. The blades just aren't sharp enough.
Cleaning the product isn't as simple as just putting it into the dishwasher. Because the blades aren't very sharp, a lot of the food gets caught on the blades and you have to scrub them out with a sponge. This is especially the case with nuts. I just chopped some walnuts the other day and it took quite some time to get all the stuck-on nuts off of the blades.
I'm disappointed because I have other Zyliss products and I really like them.
