Pros: Durable, safe for pots & pans, nice design, guaranteed
Cons: Can stain (such as curry!), this isn't non-stick (they don't claim it to be)
The Bottom Line: This is a great kitchen product. This Zyliss Slotted Turner is very well-made, and will help to extend the life of non-stick cookware.

| Javelina's Full Review: Zyliss Slotted Turner |
I am really hooked on Oxo products, but am trying the Zyliss brand as well to compliment my collection of kitchen tools. I bought this turner because I had bought some new frying pans and didnt want them to get scratched up with metal turners.
Appearance, Design & Features
I find the design and colors of the Zyliss series to be very attractive. Their kitchen tools are shades of white and grey, with silver accents.
The Slotted Turner has a long white handle, and a light grey spatula. There is a hole punched in the top of the handle, reinforced by a silver metal piece that is imprinted with the Zyliss logo. I dont hang my kitchen tools at the moment, but its nice that theres that possibility.
The handle is contoured so that the widest part fits nicely into the palm of your hand.
Performance
The Zyliss website description:
Slips under all types of fried food, thanks to the chamfered edge and angled handle. Fingers are protected from the pan edge thanks to the ideal length of the handle. Fat drains away optimally through the longitudinal slots. Not heat-conducting.
As I mentioned, I bought the turner so that I wouldnt ruin my non-stick pans. I have used the Zyliss Slotted Turner on my pans with no problems, no scratches. The only thing I have to worry about is other people using other spatulas (other than this one) with my good pans!
I think it is more of the chamfered edge (beveled) rather than the type of material that makes for better maneuverability with food. When I make pancakes, for example, its fairly easy to slip the turner under the edge of the pancake. While it doesnt seem as slippery as it could be, but the plastic material is better than metal, and it was designed the have a relatively thin edge.
In other words, I would say that this is more slippery than metal, but probably not nonstick. I do have to scrub the spatula fairly well to remove food that is cooked on.
The Zyliss Slotted Turner is also supposed to be heat resistant to 445 degrees F. I havent experienced any warping or melting of the spatula. I also have no problems with the handle getting hot.
Because this is a long turner, I can also set this product in a frying pan momentarily without having to be concerned that the handle will fall into the food.
The Yellow Curry Incident
As I mentioned, the turner is a light grey color. That is, until I cooked a curry dish. I had some Biryani spices that I cooked with. The spatula part of the turner was coated with the bright yellow spices as I stirred the dish. After cooking, I washed the Zyliss Slotted Turner right away, as I usually do with my cooking tools (so that they are readily available and dont sit in the dishwasher for a week!).
So now my turner is permanently stained this yellow color. Its a little unsettling and unsightly, but doesnt affect it. I havent had anything else stain the spatula, but I mostly use it for things like pancakes or vegetables.
Dishwasher Safe?
I have a habit of forgetting whether kitchen tools are dishwasher safe, and wished they marked them better. However this Zyliss product is dishwasher safe.
Durability & Materials
A careful test is made before manufacturing a Zyliss appliance to determine which of the various types of plastic has the most suitable properties to give the unit the longest possible service life if treated properly. All materials used by Zyliss are unaffected by foodstuffs and free from cadmium!.
Zyliss warrants this product to be free from defects in material and workmanship for 5 years from date of purchase.
There is nothing better than knowing that theres a guarantee on a product. It wont cover damages that I make, but it will mean that I didnt waste my money if I pick up the Slotted Turner and the handle falls off!
Downsides?
As I mentioned, the spatula is now stained what I call curry yellow. Although this doesnt affect the Zyliss Slotted Turner, it detracts from its appearance, and I would say it makes it look older and like its been around for a while.
I guess I was under the impression that this product was non-stick, but it is just less sticky than regular metal. Sometimes I have to put a little arm into cleaning the turner.
Price & Where to Purchase
I bought the Zyliss Slotted Turner at a Linens N Things. It cost me around $8.00. This is fairly expensive, but I think that it fairly reflects the quality of the item. I have no problem spending this much- a little more than most products- to have the reassurance that I have a well-made, high-quality item.

Overall
I am glad that I added this Zyliss Slotted Turner to my kitchen collection. I have really come to like Zyliss products in addition to the Oxo products that I love so much! Not only is this a great product, and a great investment (because this one will last a while), but it also adds to the life of my pots and pans.
It doesnt bother me that the turner is stained, although I miss the new spatula grey color! I think other people who use this turner is my kitchen are a little disturbed by the shocking new color, which fades from dark yellow at the spatula tip to light yellow to grey!
