letrouvere's Full Review: Dalai Lama and Howard C. Cutler - The Art of Happi...

Thus, much of the content of the book consists of the words of the Dalai Lama. However, to suggest that the Dalai Lama wrote this book is, in my opinion, somewhat misleading.
Dr. Cutler is a psychiatrist in Phoenix, Arizona. The Dalai Lama, of course, is the exiled religious leader of Tibet, who was also the ruler of Tibet before that country's conquest by Communist China.
Dr. Cutler and the Dalai Lama engaged in discussion of various topics relating to happiness in daily life. The book combines insights from American psychiatry with those derived from centuries of Buddhist teaching.

Throughout the conversations, the Dalai Lama emphasizes the importance of compassion. He states that approaching others with the thought of compassion in the mind is the best way to overcome isolation from others. "True spirituality is a mental attitude that you can practice at any time."
