For us it was the bowling alley (Reply to this comment)

We had a bowling alley in Mossyrock....and an A&W Rootbeer drive in, and they both had this music cranking at full speed.
Oh you are reaaaaaly taking me back to the day. You know, there were actual pin ball machines at the alley there.
cheers

Okay... so that's one of the most beautiful, poetic, and ultimately heartbreaking comments I've ever read.
It almost makes me sad that my own public school experience wasn't as - ermm - Medieval, like yours.
Blown away, once again,

ah yes - the roller rink.
I went to a private Christian school where we didn't have dancing at social events - if kids from the school wanted to dance, they had to organize it for themselves, usually in the form of a birthday party at someone's house or some local establishment, which usually meant the roller rink.
You see, the rink was the loophole around the Big Verboten (cue Footloose soundtrack here)... after all, it's just a place for kids to hang out and skate around in circles to popular music, right? Well, for the kids who never danced, (or at least, never got invited to the birthday parties) roller skating was the closest we'd come to actually moving in rhythm to music.
Just leaning into a turn became your illicit chance at grooving through the Soul Train dance line... push off and leeeeeaaaan! Bob your head and clap! Swing your arms across your body, laugh out loud and twist - to the side (clap clap) to the other side (clap) Accelerate to catch up with Her (sigh) and be glared at by her four friends (groan) Wait! did she smile at me? (sigh) and leeeeeaaaan!
...almost paradise
