Ladies and gentlemen, prepare to be impressed.
Ok, so I've written a few reviews on some really awesome groups that no one has yet heard of, but this is by far the best new group on the music scene today.
Isle of Q.
Yes, just the letter Q.
Q as in Quite impressive.
You may have heard their first release, "Little Scene," or perhaps you have not yet heard the brand new single "Bag of Tricks." Either way, call your local station and request them.
These guys are a rock mix of grunge and headbangers, lyrically driven on songs that have a point. Unlike so many songs of today, these guys sing about some good stuff including fitting in, self-esteem, conquest of Native Americans, and even the crucifixion of Christ.
What? A rock group? No, I wouldn't call these guys Christian rockers by any means, but they definitely are educated and well able to think.
The lyrics are "gripping and compelling" (I love that cliche`), and has had me mesmerized since I bought the album in early October.
Here's a brief excerpt from "The Clone:"
"I read the books that they told me I should read,
I spoke the words that they told me I should speak,
I was the person, the person that they told me to be."
If that wasn't enough, they continue through several verses on the same idea, leading up to "tomorrow, one more clone is made." In society, we become those clones, eager to fit in and please the "norm."
This group is definitely different. They can think! Led by the writings of lead singer Ringler and bassist, keyboardist Beau Bodine, this group is a step away from what is normal. They may be a little dark, but once the songs get in your head, they won't get out. One taste of "Sweet Potato," and you'll be coming back for more.
If you enjoy groups like Creed, STP, and even the Toadies, then you must add this to your collection. We all need to stand out of the crowd and drift to an Isle, the Isle of Q.
This is the best album of the year!!
