City On A Hill - Now don't fall!
by LifeStar | Jan 15 '02
Pros: A great compilation of original worship songs done by the artists themselves
Cons: One of the songs really used too much reverb

...once again I forgot. I was blushing at the beginning of your review. It made my day! (Not to mention my ego. ;-) Thank you for the compliment! I was just as privileged to be trusted by you.

...I was dead sure I had rated and even left a comment on this review. In retrospect I realize I got distracted, remembered vaguely that I had written a review of this CD too, and wandered off to see how that was doing. Having humbly admitted this, I will now have the courage to praise your review, which was extremely good and really captured the spirit of the album.

You gotta love Mac Powell, don't ya? I think "Show Me Your Glory" is very similar (yet still quite its own song) to "God of Wonders." It's just fresher! ("Wonders" gets a bit old after hearing it 1250 times.)

Oh, I had no problems with their "Kiss Me" song actually. I didn't know they were christian though when I first heard it. What I was disappointed by them before was just when they were becoming popular amongst people my age, they seemed kinda embarassed by their faith.

They've gotten better along the way, for example, they appeared on the Roaring Lambs album, which is based on a book that deals with the intergrity and walk of a believer.

So overall, it was good that they appeared, but it's hard to rid first impressions a lot of times. Thanks for your comment though.

...especially since my name was invoked below and I'm known for doing so.

Your review was incredibly thorough and I agree with your stance on a lot of the worship music coming out these days. Thank God Jars of Clay stood their ground and didn't bow to the pressure to do a worship album!

I was a little disappointed by your stance on Sixpence. I feel like Christians love to bash them no matter what they sing about. They were known back in the day for being one of the more undergorund, "depressing" Christian bands. Truth is, they've been through rough times, and I think it's good for Christians who have gone through rough spots in their faith to hear that they're not alone, to hear cries for help just like the numerous cries for help in the Psalms and elsewhere in the Bible.

And what happened when they went and wrote a "happy song"? They got criticized again! Christians kiss, too... it's a normal part of life. That song wasn't written with mainstream successs in mind - it was out for over a year before mainstream radio picked it up. The fact that Sixpence is willing to do something a little out of the ordinary and participate in a worship album should be a testament to their versatility and a reason to commend them.

Off the soapbox now. I just had to stand up in defense of the 'pence. Keep up the good work.

Have you ever listened to Bob Dylan do gospel? (Reply to this comment)

On his album "Saved", there is an unbelievably
great gospel song called "In The Garden"
which paints a mindscape where the "when they came for him in the garden, did they know,
when they came for him in the garden, did they know? Did they know he was the son of God,
did they know that he was lord, did they know when he said to Peter, "Peter put up your sword"."
Enjoyed your epinion. -Clay Kordahl

No problem. I understand what that's like. I just thought you have been prolific for a person who has only been on for a couple of months. It's rather commendable.

1)You mentioned the Choir. They're still around? They've always seemed to be a kind of experimental band to me, which explains the whole reverb problem.

Well, I have no idea who the Choir is, so I guess so! LOL!

2)I've been reading your reviews for awhile now, and I'm impressed with how your writing gets better and better with each review. It wasn't bad to begin with, but you're one of the few reviewers whose stuff has been improving constantly. Great job!

Man, if I could blush! Thanks for the encouragement dude! I have found that other good writers raise the bar for me everytime I write. And other writers who honestly critic, like divad23, get me even more fired up to improve. Thanks dude!

Reading your review I wanted to comment on two things.

2)I've been reading your reviews for awhile now, and I'm impressed with how your writing gets better and better with each review. It wasn't bad to begin with, but you're one of the few reviewers whose stuff has been improving constantly. Great job!
