pbwise's Full Review: Everyday by Dave Matthews Band
I am a big Dave Matthews Fan and have purchased every CD that the band has out. I bought Everyday about a month ago or so and was greeted with a new sound. Dave threw in the old acoustic guitar for the electric guitar which though sounds good on some songs, is too in your face in many others.
As well, the thing that is lacking the most on this CD is the inclusion of the other band members and the fusion of the instruments they play. I mean, on I Did It you have Boyd playing the Violin for a few cords like a guitar, and that is all.
The songs on the new CD are more radio friendly and not the part of the big jams that Dave has had in the past that can go on for ever, like the 12 minute Seek Up on Red Rocks.
Many can say that the band sold out, though I think the new sound is because of their new producer. If you did not know, they switched producers after they originally cut the CD and went back and wrote all new songs for this release.
Though, one can now download what the original CD was supposed to sound like before they switched producers. This is more the Dave that we are used to. Long songs (10:00 bartender), the fusion of instruments, and the great melodies
