Pros:An awesome collection of hard to find AAA songs.
Cons:They apparently can't use the AAA (insurance) logo any more
The Bottom Line: This is an excellent AAA CD, it offers a ton of awesome songs with an underlying message. The name says it all
Against All Authority is one hell of a punk ska band. Its ska, but its not pop ska by any means. It is gritty, fast, slurred and loud. Nothing New For Trash Like You is a compilation of hard to find songs from compilations, split 7 inches, and various other sources.
Although every song had been previously released from other sources, I had only heard a handful of songs that are available on this CD. I was never aware that Against All Authority did splits with Pist, Anti Flag, or Less Than Jake, and was extremely happy with their cover of the Pist song "Threat". With CDs being the main form of music production now a days, its getting harder to find vinyl, especially 7 inches, and I'm thankful that AAA decided to re-release these on CDs which can basically be bought anywhere.
Against All Authority had a couple cover songs on this album. They did a Pist cover, a Propagandhi, and they even did a cover of J Giles band's hit "Centerfold." Pist was a really cool band from Conneticuit, but are no longer together. Against Authority did a cover of their song "Threat."AAA's version starts off pretty much the same way as the original but after the opening drum part, its just pure mayhem. They play it a lot faster and add a ska part. The Propagandhi song AAA covered is "Ska Sucks" and it is basically played exactly the same way as Propagandhi played it (they even remembered the ending riff), its another good cover. I was really impressed with the job Against All Authority did on their "Centerfold Cover." They just completely gritified that song and it's a beautiful thing, I especially like the way their singer can slur all his words in together so closely and still make it sound incredible, not just this song, usually its all of them (It reminds me of Operation Ivy for some reason).
If a band can do a cover song that can mean that their original stuff sucks; This is definitely not true with Against All Authority. Every song they play has a deep routed meaning and supplies a message to the listener.
favorites
Just an obstruction- This song explains the inhumane treatment the Native Americans recieved from the pioneers who came to conquer their homeland. Its written as if one of the pioneers was blatanlty telling the Native Americans
Sacco & Vanzetti- Extremely fast paced song about an anarchist who I'm guessing was unjustly killed due to his beliefs (sorry I'll find out about the topic). The song itself is just so fast and well played that it was an instant favorite for me.
Threat An awesome cover. I can't even explain how good it is.
