Vivan Los Brujos!

Written: Jan 29 '01 (Updated Feb 21 '01)
Pros:Creative, amusing in its theatrics, damn excellent music
Cons:The CD isn't longer. I could have it go on and on.
The Bottom Line: I can't see where a death metal fan could be disappointed. Brujeria provide a unique and intense experience.

Hola! Brujerizmo is the best piece of death metal I have heard in a long time (probably since their last album). Are the members of Brujeria really Mexican drug lords, or are they members from prominent bands joined together in this "side" project? Ah, who cares, it's excellent stuff. I understand Spanish fairly well, so the lyrics aren't cryptic for me. However, I'm always surprised at how well Spanish lends itself to death metal, especially Juan Brujo's roaring, growling vocals. The tracks (which I translate into English for Epinion viewers) include the title track, "Vayan Sin Miedo" (Go Without Fear), "La Traicion" (Treason), "Pititis Te Invoco" (Pititis, I Invoke You), "Laboratorio Chistalitos" (Crystal Meth), "Division Del Norte" (Division of the North), "Marcha De Odio" (March of the Hated), "Anti-Castro", "Guiden A Los Ninos" (Guide The Children), "El Bajon" (I bet on the slang for The Funk, depression), "Mecosario" (no se, que lastima), "El Desmadre" (More slang, The Mess), and "Sida De La Mente" (AIDS of the Mind). This is no Julio Iglesias, Menudo, or Christina the Gorilla! Go brush up on your Spanish and make sure your ear drums are ready.
