rasha17's Full Review: Richard Paul Evans - The Christmas Box: Anniversar...
Curling up in front of a warm fire, a beautifully decorated Christmas tree, and a good book, is one of my favorite things to do during the holiday season. Year after year, my favorite choice would have to be “The Christmas Box” by Richard Paul Evans. Looking at it, there is a certain Christmas feel, mystery, surprise, love and the unmistakable mark of a classic Christmas tale is written all over it. Nothing will dull that feel, page after page, a story of a great gift and a beautiful message, peers through the words and brings tears to the reader’s eyes.
When a family of three, becomes too big for their apartment, Keri begs Richard to move into an up style home with an elderly lady. The lady ask only for meal preparation, light house keeping, and yard care. In return they would get separate living quarters, private and furnished. Only thinking of his business, Richard dismisses the idea at first, but after his wife, Keri, and three year old daughter Jenna beg him for a chance, Richard finally gives in to their begging and pleading. Even if he hadn’t agreed, Keri had already set up an appointment. At their arrival, the young family is amazed by the beauty and grandeur of large Victorian mansion. After they entered, they were lead to a parlor were they met Mrs. MaryAnne Parkin. Both Keri and Jenna thought highly of the lady, but, as usually, Richard didn’t seem as taken to the lady, and vise versa. The book goes on and the Evans` go to live with Mrs. Parkin and start to slowly warm up to her cordial and almost cold demeanor. The Christmas season rolls around and Richard starts experiences strange dreams in which and angelic little girl beacons to him while calling his name. This leads to him waking up in the middle of the night, hearing a faint music coming from the attic. Taking a flashlight in hand, he walks to the attic to find that the melody is coming from a beautiful box. When he arrives at it, the music suddenly stops. Richard reaches over to inspect were the music is coming from, he sees no device of any sort, but discovers the top of the box propped open. Peering inside, he finds several letters, and reads one. The mysterious letters and a certain inquiry from Mrs. Parkin about the first gift of Christmas, sends Richard on a mad hunt to discover what is going on, and what is really important in life. Richard gets desperate as Mrs. Parkin becomes ill, severely ill.
This enchanting story will rap you up in the twists and turns of an Elderly ladies quest to open a young man’s eyes before it’s too late….
