Geeze... (Reply to this comment)

So I've been mulling over buying this...I think I'll take the leap. Let me say I'm already a Josh fan- I'd buy anything he puts out more than likely, but it's the price that's keeping me from it (but hey, I found it on Amazon for ten bucks! woo hoo!). Anyway, I'm a bit upset that this isn't as good- I'll take your word for it. I'm happy to hear that the DVD is good quality, but I'm a bit bummed to know that there are only eight songs on the CD- what a gyp. I don't know...I'm just a bit bummed in general. Josh better come with a follow-up release soon!
Great review by the way :)

well, I still don't own any of Josh's studio recordings, and I only recently picked this up - apparently, I haven't reached the nausea level yet...
perhaps you should beseech the doppler tower for divine intervention?

If I hear "Remember When It Rained" one more time, I'm going to toss my cookies!

oooh - My December a capella? sounds interesting...
As for the "last shows are the best" concert recording myth - there is one recording I can speak to with authority. naturally, it's Sting - I was at the show the night before they recorded the Brand New Day show at the Hollywood Bowl, and my recollection of that show fits in really well with the DVD version. I don't feel like Sting held back in the show I saw - I think he left it all on the stage the night I saw him and the night they did the recording. But then, Sting is a veteran at this business, and Josh is not - that is probably the big difference...
FYI - saw the sax-a-maphone episode of the Simpson's last night, thought immediately of your famous nick

My December... (Reply to this comment)

...man, that song is making the rounds. Here I thought that it was neat that my old a cappella group's been doing it at their shows this year, turns out Joshy boy got there first.
That said, it feels like too many bands/artists feel the need to record the *last* show of a long tour, usually giving reasons of "leaving it all on the stage" or whatnot, implying that the performances will be the best and/or rare nuggets will be unleashed upon the audience. The problem being, a good band/artist "leaves it on the stage" every night, and there's bound to be fatigue by the end. By george, I think you've explained at least half of the lousy concert recordings I've heard in the last five years! Well done!
Nice work bob_,
