Sophie Sophie Sophie... (Reply to this comment)
by katmar
I think her albums fail because she is one weird apple, if you've ever seen her on anything. Her elevator doesn't just fail to reach the top floor, it doesn't even know there's a top floor. Or so it seems to me. I can't believe there's a record company still willing to pay her money to record.

Anyway, thanks for the review. I didn't know she was still around, either.

After buying Whaler in high school I took a vow of celebacy from any and all Sophie music. I find it hard to believe that there's 4 - 5 good songs on the album, but I'll take your word for it. Thanks for previewing it for me.

Yeah. Hard to believe, I know. I gave Wilderness the benefit of the doubt in many respects ;)

She doesn't stand a snowball's chance (Reply to this comment)

If she is doing dated adult-contemporary music, she won't stand a snowball's chance on hip-hop-driven top-40 radio. Even adult contempo, with its extremely bland and constricted playlists, are slow to add songs by artists who haven't released anything in a while.

Shame on you to judge Sophie musically based on an interview or two you didn't approve of rather than the talent she is. How many female artists do you know of today that not only have a beautiful, never off key, singing voice, can play guitar, piano, drums and many more instruments flawlessly, writes all of her own songs, alone, from deep inside her soul reaching out and touching so many of those that admire her, and yes, there are quite a few of us out here.
Sophie just recently played in Pittsburgh did you bother to go see her perform? Did you bother to meet her after the show? She is absolutely not a weird apple but a beautiful, kind soul who gives a piece of herself to everyone who asks. She spends hours after performing each night to greet her fans, how many artists do you know of that do that? I've met Sophie a couple of times and she has always been wonderful, and yes, she is aware there is a top floor and is above it on the rooftop.
Wilderness is different for Sophie. She appears to be in a better place. It is a happy, upbeat piece of art that shouldn't be overlooked.
