Pros: unique, fun, humorous, bright, colorful
Cons: campy and totally tongue in cheek
The Bottom Line: A unique take on the world. Not everyone will share my sense of humor and willingness to poke fun at even the things I take seriously.

| jiastar's Full Review: Paul Kepple and Jude Buffum - The Housewive's Taro... |
I have a little secret ... I collect Tarot Decks and other Oracle type Decks.
Even though I only use one or 2 of them to do readings, I keep buying more. This is a new one - well it actually came out last year, but it's new to me.
According to gossip, The Housewives Tarot was introduced by housewife extraordinaire Marlene Louise in the early 1950s. She was a happy homemaker who seemed to have it alla devoted husband and obedient children, a sparkling home that was the talk of the town, a fashion sense to die for, and far more than her fair share of womens intuition. From the instruction book
The Housewives Tarot: Domestic Divination Kit (With Deck and Instruction Book) comes in an attractive recipe box with dividers that seperate the Major Arcana, Minor Arcana, and the instruction book. There are also a few actual recipes including "Divinated Eggs" and "Ice Box Fortune Cake".
This deck is like none other I've seen before.
The colors are bright and cheerful, and the art looks like it came straight out of 1950's catalogs and advertisements.
Some of the cards explained :
6 of cups : a girl with her blonde hair held back in a headband is drinking a frothy strawberry soda/shake, 5 others glasses sit in front of her
Knight of Swords : a leather jacket wearing "hood" sitting on a motorcycle with a switchblade in his hand
Strength : a box of steel wool pads
8 of wands : a woman sits upon a broom flying through the sky, 7 other long-handled cleaning implements fly along side
The Devil : a long-legged and horned "devil's food cake" surrounded by other temptations
2 of wands : a woman fends off flying appliances with 2 feather dusters
The Tower : half woman half jello-mold
The instruction book gives you interpretations for all 78 cards -- and describes five different layouts:
the Virgin Spread
the Neapolitan Spread
the Clothesline Spread
the Dinette Spread
the Martini Spread
This is a lively deck which applies the lessons of homemaking to the occult teachings of the tarot. It illustrates the fact that truths are hidden all around us. That we can find wisdom in the simple tasks of caring for our homes and families.
However, it also looks at life in a tongue in cheek fashion. Even the Death card is portrayed as a jar of spoiled mayonaisse. Which is more accurate than the typical portrayal of the Horseman Cometh. For most people death sneaks up on them and presents in a form and timline they did not expect.
I wound up looking at this deck as simply a novel addition to my collection. Now, I am in love .... not only is the artwork quirky and often very very funny, but the cards themselves are interpreted in such a unique and often suprisingly insightful way.
