| compucat's Full Review: Casio EV-4500 4 in. Portable TV |
In an era where CRT based portable TVs are on their way out and the LCD has come into its own, The Casio EV-4500 stands above the crowd. Most of the current offerings in handheld TV are from Casio who has been in the game since the first practical LCD set was offered and the seem to be taking the lead. For years I have been a die-hard Sony Watchman fan since they used to use the flat picture tube. Casio has proven themselves to me with the EV-4500. This has the largest and clearest display of all the handheld LCD sets. The color is accurate and rich and from a distance looks about as good as a regular picture tube. The tuning is quick and precise. The channel call button is a great feature that lets you see what channel you are on without de-tuning the set and then re-tuning back to the previous channel. The sound is good and about as expected from such a small set. It wont fill a big room but at the recommended viewing distance is more than sufficient. The backlighting is even and there are no "hot spots" of irregular brightness as with some cheaper sets. In fact, all the Casio TVs I have seen have excellent, even backlighting. The styling is very up to date and the build quality is excellent. The set feels solid and the controls are smooth and precise. This is a high-end set and it looks, feels, and works like one. I have not tried it yet on batteries but since it has such a large screen, I would not expect much battery life. This set is about the size of a portable CD player and is ideally suited to the desk, nightstand (where I use mine), or countertop. I recommend this set for its performance and quality. Shop around, though, as prices online can be much lower than your nearby retailer.
