| artbay's Full Review: Denon AVR-3802 7.1 Channels Receiver |
After shopping around for quite a while looking for a surround system for under a grand, the Denon 3802 came out on top. Compared to other systems I looked at; Yamaha, Sony, Harmon Kardon I thought the Denon had the cleanest sound. On that account I've been quite happy with my system. However, as other reviewers have mentioned this is a bit difficult to set up and not for the faint of heart (i.e. if you don't already have at least 5 remote controls and know how to use them all this might not be the system to for you). Also this unit should only be gotten by someone who has easy access to the back when setting it up. My system is in a built in cabinet without easy access and this was a bear to set up. Once up and running the sound is VERY good, quite pleased on that note.
One VERY big problem for me however was the svhs connections. I have been running a system with satellite, DVD, super vhs recorder, LD and they all have svhs inputs and outputs. I have been using a non electric svhs mixer. When I set up the Denon I found the video to have fallen to absolutely terrible quality. I tried a few things including getting more expensive svhs cable. But no matter what I did the picture quality sucked. Ended up going back to my little manual switcher and the picture quality is much much better.
From my experience if you are planning to be using svhs connections for your video sources I would not recommend this unit.
