| maggsmomm's Full Review: Sony CDX-L550 X Car CD Player |
Last Christmas I bought a Xbox for myself. I thought I needed something fun to do when I realized I spend the majority of the time in my car. And the manufactured stereo was defiantly not one of high quality. So I went hunting for a Sony cd changer. I found Sony Xplod CDX-L550X CD receiver and immediately had it installed.
Why Sony?
I have used Sony products for many years. I have a complete Sony home theatre system, a Sony CD Walkman, a Sony alarm clock, and now a Sony Car Stereo.
Why? Because I have never had one problem with any of their products. What the claim on their packaging is what they do. Nothing more nothing less. And you definitely get what you pay for where Sony is concerned.
My Crankin Car Stereo
The Xplod (explode) is too cool.
~It delivers 52 watts of power per channel up to four.
~The seven (7) band EQ (equalizer) delivers high quality sound and user integration for what ever type of music you like-such as a channel for rock, live, xplod, vocal, etc.,
~Cd Text Programmable-Your CD is already programmed? Great just slide your disc in. It's not? Than you can do the work for your CD. All my radio stations are listed by my favorite nicknames for them-such as 103.7 Alternative is ~Lick~on my display panel.
~6 Programmable presets for your favorite radio stations.
~Detachable face with line case, so no one will take off with it!
~Two preamp outputs
~Colorful display
What?
Yes, you heard me this baby is loud. You get all these features plus the bonus of having a very LOUD and MEAN system at your reach.
It's so loud in fact, I cannot turn it up past 5 or it would blow the windows out of my car.
But is the Sound Quality Good?
NO. It is EXCELLENT. I have my factory speakers in my car and it purrs like a kitten. The bass booms, the treble rocks all of which you control.
You have sound functions--treble, bass, rear & front speaker adjuster.
Also the EQ is displayed so you can see the settings without having to flip through the system. But if you must expect it to be preset-you have settings for -*rock, *pop, *xplod, *jazz, *live, *vocal, and *custom-the EQ you set for the type of music you like.
An off/on button.
The center button on the "X" where your settings and controls are, this is how you change from radio to compact disc. Your volume control is also ON the X. Under the X to the far lower right hand corner is the off button. I don't use this feature often.
Kickin Interface
The stereo has a scrolling marquee, which is also programmable. All CDs can have their information entered so each song displays as well as the title of the CD you are listening to. (most newer CDs are preprogrammed so they automatically program the stereo).
The systems memory will hold 300 different CD titles. Amazing I can hardly remember 10 titles!
Dials, Buttons, and Lights!
The functions are all easily reachable from the drivers seat. On the left is an x shaped tuner and/or tuner. Around the X is the buttons you need to set up your CD for listening pleasure, or the radio for that matter. They are al lit up in red.
The face scrolls in greyish white with a black and red background.
Every button is lit up and is easy to find with your hand if you cant take your eyes off the road.
Dont Touch My Xplod!
The face is fully detachable with one hand. Just press the button on the left and off comes the face plate. It stores nicely in a case that is padded with foam to protect the face from scratching.
Restoring the face can be done with one hand also. Just line up the face with its mount and press. Boom! Your face is back on and the display is lit up and ready to rock.
My CD Just Got Eaten!
Or so it would seem. Flip the face down and the red lit up arrow is staring you in the face. Running along side is a straight red line where you feed your CD. Just slightly slide it in a little less than a quarter inch and TA-DA it slides in itself.
Don't like the CD? Just hit the red lit up arrow and out the CD comes. But..if you wait too long (approx. 3 minutes) the CD will be returned into the deck.
What Can I Say?
I love my car stereo system. In fact im so in love with this (a year later can you believe im not as fickle as you thought I was?) I have a huge silver chrome Xplod sticker on my car. Yes, it's free advertising, it says I have a jammin system, and it's also an invitation to those who'd like to tear out my system. That's why the face is detachable and the CD case goes under my seat.
My X has a Pioneer system in his car with a box system, its loud. I don't have my new speakers or their box, but mine is just as loud as his and the sound quality is much better.
I paid 299.00 for this last year and the prices have dropped dramatically due to the new Xplods out there. If you want a good system and don't need a remote than you want this-Rock, Pop, Jazz, or Rap you gotta a thumpin system, hands down!
I'd buy it again, but I would have a speaker system put in place first. ;0)
