Spending a couple of months working at a relatively popular electronic/computer sales shop, you can’t help but pick up certain tidbits of information of trivia from the work, and people, around you. I would never consider myself an expert when it comes to laptops/notebooks and pcs, but it’s easy to learn that when it comes to buying a certain personal computer all the potential buyer really needs to do is focus on certain qualities that the computer offers and see what best matches their needs, while of course paying close attention to the price.

Acer is a Laptop brand that is slowly taking the computer world by force. Although still not quite as popular as HP or Dell, Acer seems to have become a comfortable choice for most people, mainly due to offering some solid specs while at the same time remaining at a reasonable price.
Acer Computer V3-771G-6851 17.3-Inch, Black (NXRYQAA005) PC Notebook is another solid outing for the popular brand, combining an ultra-light frame with powerful, and decent gaming standard, hardware and software.
Operating System: Windows 8. Windows 8 takes some getting used to, and has received its fair share of criticism by computer lovers worldwide (continuing the trend of having one loved OS followed by one ‘controversial’ OS), but Windows 8 is overall an interesting experience, and one that fully makes use of the touchpad, and on some pc touchscreen, function. A mouse and keyboard can be used but the best way to truly enjoy this version of Windows is to take a more interactive approach. Personally, I find Windows 8 to be the most user friendly windows on the market, with improved accessibility functions (including expanded language support and better narration for those with learning disabilities). Some other functions include an all new Internet Explorer 10 that resides on the Start Screen which is more touch friendly. The desktop system is similar to the Windows 7 model, minus the Aero UI (no more transparent borders!) and also multi-monitor support has been added, besides other new features. This laptop model doesn’t include an office suit usually, unless directly specified by seller.
Size: The Acer V3 Black (for short) has one of the better laptop designs for travel and social calls. Notebooks exist for the person on the go, be it jumping from lecture room to lecture room or flying miles away with an aero plane, this model is suitable for most of this activity. The notebooks size is quite large, as demonstrated by the 17.3 inch monitor, but the actually weight and width of the notebook is much more carrier friendly; at just over 7 pounds (3.2 kg) weight and only 1” thin.
Battery Life/Memory: The lifespan of the battery is usually a frequent complaint for Acer laptops, and although the Acer V3 black has a decent enough starting battery life of 4 hours (using a Lithium Ion battery), the common Acer problem of overheating is still present to a lesser degree on this model. As time passes slowly but surely the battery life will start to decline and overheating can be quite a dilemma for those living in scorching climates. There is also a very good amount of 6 GB RAM installed.
Drives/Ports: 750GB Sata Hard Drive should suffice most of everyone’s needs, with a rotation speed of 5400 RPM, which might be the slowest available but still provides almost as good as an experience as the 7200 RPM drives (mainly due to laptops having data packed extremely tightly). Also 5400 RPM heat up the system less than their faster counterparts which is an important point to take into account when buying a (acer) laptop.
The 8X DVD-Super Multi Double-Layer Drive offers the capability to read/record DVDs and CDs and also the possibility to do double layer recordings on DVDs. 4 USB ports are provided, two the now outdated 2.0 ports and two the brilliantly fast modern 3.0 ports. The USB 3.0 ports are not only fast as lightning but much greener, as it provided power when needed and conserves when idle. This model also contains a HDMI port allowing HD video transfer.
Warranty/General Use: The warranty bought will depend on where the user is purchasing the computer from. For example taking Amazon.com there are full warranties that last for four years at about 170 dollars, and drop and spills warranties that last two years for 100 dollars.
The Acer V3 Black is a product that tries its best to maximize style and substance. It’s a notebook designed for home use, and also Acers still remain one of the lesser names when it comes to entertainment/gaming products, this version of Acer provides a substantial improvement over most of its comrades. The 17.3 inch HD screen, with an LED backlight display (which reduces the sun glare problem Acer often had), the 3rdGeneration Intel core processor and the NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M, which is a good enough graphics card for most games at medium specs, all combine to show off some impressive visuals making this Acer model at its best while entertaining its owner. Most people who seemed to buy this model seem to focus on the surprisingly good specs, and the reasonable price. As stated heating can be an issue, and its often remarked that the Acer customer service leaves a lot to desire (besides the fact that they are reluctant to give any Windows Install CDs with computers, forcing the customer to use their service to reboot), but overall most should be satisfied with this notebook.
