DERWENT, you understood, that without a good sharpener, I could never really make my "point"(SMILE). When I am drawing, or writing a grocery list, a to do list, or making entries in my address book, check register, or even playing tic tac toe with my granddaughter, all these things become so much more enjoyable when I have my DERWENT BATTERY POWERED PENCIL SHARPENER, right by my side to help me get my 'point' made. Do you get my "point"(SMILE) so far, that I am happy with my new DERWENT BATTERY POWERED PENCIL SHARPENER?
There is nothing more frustrating, then going to get a pencil, and finding it either has never been sharpened, or the point is broken, and you can't get your pencil sharpener to do a good job, or you can't find your pencil sharpener.
I never really had a good sharpener, everytime I would use it, it usually would eat half of my pencil before I could get a point that was remotely usable for a short time. But if I had some serious writing or drawing to do, I would have to re-sharpen that pencil probably 6 to 8 times to finish my project. Yes, I would eventually make it through, but it is so frustrating and takes away the joy I would normally put into doing any job I would attempt. So, enough was enough! So tired of the struggle, I decided I wanted to get a new pencil sharpener. I needed one that wouldn't cramp up my hands, and that wouldn't eat my pencil. It was also important that it could be accessable, sitting beside me where I would be writing, so I wouldn't have to wonder, where did that little sharpener go now?
So to Amazon.com I went and there, for under $25.00, was my new DERWENT BATTERY POWERED PENCIL SHARPENER. After looking at everything available for sharpeners, I chose this one. I chose this one because it would be easily accessable, sitting beside me, ready when I needed it. My new DERWENT BATTERY POWERED PENCIL SHARPENER is big enough to sit and look good on my desk. It is small enough to through it into my bag and take it with me where ever I need it. My new DERWENT swivels to a more comfortable angle to use, rather than just standing straight up. It stands about 3 1/2 inches at the lowest angle and the highest angle about 4 3/4inches high, and can adjust higher to your preference. The face of the sharpener is 3 1/2inches in diameter. The face is adjustable, manually, to choose your needed hole size. It is quite easy for me to turn it to choose my size, and I tend to have stiff and sore hands, and it doesn't bother them to turn the dial.
There are five separate holes to choose from depending on the width of your pencil. There are two standard holes. The two standard holes are for your average #2 pencil that we are all familiar with as used in school. Those two are 5/16ths of an inch. The other three are 8/16ths, 7/16ths, and 6/16ths of an inch.
There are actually two sharpening devices inside the sharpener, and each have a dial, allowing you to choose whether you want a sharp sharp point, or a more dull flattened point to write with. Which will give you a very thin point for accounting, or a dull point to give you a bolder darker writing look.
My preference is to use the dull point for my most common needs, but when entering numbers in my checkbook, I like the more finner line. I have never seen a sharpener with this choice before, and I like it. In fact I always used to scribble for a bit on a scrap piece of paper to get the point taken off a bit, to avoid breaking my point so often. It is what ever you have for a personal preference. This way you can set the two standard holes so that one of them is the sharpest sharp, and the other to the more dull flat point, so you won't have to adjust it back and forth each time you want a different tip. Then there are Three other holes each 1/6th of an inch larger than the next. This gives you a very good range in case you have different widths of pencils. The three bigger holes, however, can only utilize one of the sharpening device, so you would have to adjust those to what type of point you prefer.
Now that you have your two sharpening devices set to the two tips, it is time to sharpen your pencils, class! It was a pleasent surprise to feel how easy it was to insert and hold my pencil while my DERWENT BATTERY POWERED PENCIL SHARPENER sharpened my pencils. It was quick, and smooth, there was no breaking and eating of my pencils. I put my pencil in for the sharpest point and that is what I got. A very sharp point, which wrote nicely and didn't break when I used it. Then I tried the blunt point. The same pleasent experience, I put in my pencil and without a lot of noise, it quickly just sharpened my pencil to the desired more blunt point.
Each and everytime I sharpen a pencil, I get the exact same results. I have only had my DERWENT BATTERY POWERED PENCIL SHARPENER for about two months, but during this time, I have used it a lot. I have been doing a lot of balancing my checkbook, making up a budget, and doing a lot of drawing and coloring with my colored pencils. I use the dull point for most of my drawing and coloring, unless I need some particular detailed drawing, then I need the sharpest point. Please note, my DERWENT BATTERY POWERED PENCIL SHARPENER works just fine with my pencils and my colored pencils, however, It is NOT recommended for use with charcole pencils, or pastel pencils. The lead in those mediums is too soft for this speed of a sharpener, and you would end up eating up most of those pencils quickly. (so for something that delicate, I use a hand held sharpener to begin my point, and then use sandpaper to finish it to my desired tip.
Hopefully, you have gotten my "Point", (SMILE) that I am very satisfied with my new
DERWENT BATTERY POWERED PENCIL SHARPENER! It is my hope that when you are ready for a new pencil sharpener, that you will include this sharpener in your possible choices.
