This was my first tablet! I don't have an iPhone either, so I have nothing to compare it to. But I own several Kindle readers, and I wanted to try out the new tablet. I have the Amazon Prime membership that gives me access to the free prime movies and television shows as well as the Prime Lending for books. While the prime movie viewing is unlimited, we're only to borrow one book at a time and per month with the Prime membership service.

Wifi and Movies:

I'm disappointed that we must have a Wifi zone to use the internet. It does not have a 3G connection. The technician, explained that the 3G connection is too slow to run movies. In fact, I had been running the movies in my Fairfield hotel room, and it still took a while to download. One must load the movie, and wait a while to get enough downloaded so there are not pauses during viewing. But, having an analog television screen at home, I did like the higher definition on the little Android screen.

In the box:

Tablet & power cord, with a very limited quick start guide. Which I overlooked, so I had to use the try/fail method.

Like all of the Kindle readers except the very first Kindle, it comes without a cover. The power adapter doesn't interchange with the Kindle readers, so on vacation, we must take two power cords. In addition to this, there is no USB cord included. I'm not sure if we must buy the USB for downloading directly from the computer, if if we can download over cable at all.

Touch screen:

Not as finicky as my Kindle touch. There is a on screen keyboard that is quite large with the landscape orientation. "Touch typing" is still out. I'm still touching the wrong "keys" and needing to backspace often.

The Apps:

There are a lot of apps available, but keep in mind, I've never used the apple iPad, which I hear has a lot more apps to use. I downloaded the email, weather.com app, and the WSJ (Wall Street Journal) apps to start with. The email app allowed me to set up my Gmail and Yahoo accounts and consolidate them into one listing. The Weather.com gives me the daily temperature, and the options of 36 hour or 10 day forecast. We can even change locations. The Wall Street Journal app is nice, but before it works one needs to subscribe. Since I already have a subscription on my Kindle, I needed to enter my username and password for WSJ.com. It has the "printed" issue as well as the updated issue throughout the day. The Weightwatcher app has a local database and allows me to look up food. It will let me work my food diary, but I was disappointed to learn that it does not download to my account at WeightWatchers.com.

Fast loading if there's WIFI connection. Anything involving an internet connection won't work without Wifi. But the games and books still still work. I think you can even watch a movie if it's been downloaded in advance.

Our local hospital has WiFi in the patient's rooms, which was a great help to the long boring hours next to the patient.
