Pros: It's the same as what comes with the iPhone 5
If you own one of the new model Apple products, like an iPhone 5, then chances are you’ll need an extra cable to recharge it. I like to keep an extra on my desk at work so I can recharge during the day if needed. I also have a power charger that fits into the cigarette lighter outlet in my vehicle and provides a USB port to recharge whatever I plugin, meaning I am always going to have a way to power my phone.
I am very pleased with the Lightning connector on my iPhone 5 because it’s so much easier to plug in the cable. I have an older iPod and an iPad 2, and both use those wide connectors that often require a little finesse to insert correctly. On my old phone, it was microUSB and had to put in just right. I’m glad Apple figured out a way to make the plugin process easier. This works no matter which way you plug it in, so there’s no more of that flipping back and forth to line it up with the port.
This is the actual Apple brand cable and not some knockoff. I found it on Amazon.com for $16.99 with free shipping, and that’s a couple dollars off the manufacturer’s regular price. Had I bought this in the Verizon store when I got my phone, I would have paid top dollar plus tax. It does not include the wall outlet connect, as that costs extra.
The cable itself is the exact same cable that comes with the phone. It’s the same length, color, and texture. I think it’s just the right size to connect to a computer or a wall outlet. I like that it is USB meaning you can plug it into a variety of sources, and being modular makes it even more portable. I still use the original cable and power charger at home, most often to charge overnight, and got this extra cable for everywhere else. That way, I always have one at home and won’t risk losing that original one.
The bottom line here is that if you use your iPhone 5 anywhere away from home where there’s a chance you might run down the battery before the end of the day, then you should invest in a spare cable. You never know when you might forget to charge your phone overnight.
