is the iPhone5 still worth it?

Ok, so the iPhone 5 as far as Apple is concerned is dead, this despite the fact they released it 12 months ago while the iPhone 4S which was released 24 months ago is still up for sale.
What does this mean for the consumer? Well it means you can't buy it from Apple directly so you have to recurr to the likes of Amazon and ebay. but my biggest concern which is yet to be raised by someone is whether iOS8 that comes out next year will even be supported on the phone. For those who do not know, iOS8 will be the eventual successor to the flat looking system you now see on your iPhone (iOS7).
Let's discuss specs:
The phone supports 4G LTE, which is the next big thing from the Networks. This of course if your country supports it, the USA has had it even before the iPhone 5 came out, the UK is only now getting it on more than 1 Network.
The screen is a fairly good one despite some competitors saying there are better ones on the market, I guarantee from personal experience you will have no issues with this one, for those who want to know the actual numbers here it is: 640 x 1136 pixels, 4.0 inches (326 ppi pixel density).
It comes in 16, 32 and 64GB Flash storage and all models with 1GB of Ram. Since the iPhone uses flash for it's storage instead of a harddrive like most other phones, it's actually a lot faster than most phones with higher Ram, this because a harddrive requires the phone to go to the harddrive to perform an action, and then when it reads the function you're performing, it reads it back to your screen. Essentially it's a process that takes twice as long as having it on flash.
The camera is the main selling point. Though it's only 8MP, it is currently the 3rd best camera on the market in terms of low light shooting. It comes behind the new iPhone 5S, also an 8MP camera and the Nokia Lumia 1020 which packs a 41MP camera. That being said, it's the software not the hardware that makes Apple's photos come out looking great. With Autofocus, and face detection, you're pretty much always a great shot. HDR is also a great feature that takes a set of photos in the background, although you only ever end up seeing one, it takes various photos, it then decides on the best combinations of lightning and focus from those multiple photos and applies it into a single final picture. You can take video in 1080P HD at 30FPS (Frames per Second), which should mean smooth looking videos. And if the iPhone has iOS7 you will actually be able to zoom in during video, which was previously not possible. The only thing missing is optical zoom, it features digital zoom which if you try to take advantage of may end up producing very noisy pics. Once again, here are the numbers: 1/3.2'' sensor size, 1.4 µm pixel size.
The front camera isn't so much of a bragging point. It comes in the shape of 1.2MP with face detection and can also shoot HD video but only at 720p. Still that should work great for Facetime and selfies.
Battery could be better but gets you by the day. On standby: Up to 225 h (2G) / Up to 225 h (3G) Talking: Up to 8 h (2G) / Up to 8 h (3G) Music Playing: Up to 40 h
The iPhone 5 comes in 2 different colours, White and Black as you'd expect, however, if you get the black one, you better hope you're not clumsy. Once you drop it you start seeing these horrible scuffs and then it starts revealing the colour underneath the painting which is really just alluminium steel colour. On the plus side, it's highly durable and won't break or shatter like the iPhone 4 and 4S were known to do.
The iPhone 5’s height is 4.87 inches (123.8 mm); the width is 2.31 inches (58.6 mm); the depth is 0.30 inches (7.6 mm); and the weight is 3.95 ounces (112 grams).
