In our 56 gallon aquarium we have a large goldfish who has gotten to big for flake food, so we purchased some granules for him.  We hoped that the granules would satisfy his enormous appetite.

Product Information
The brand we chose to purchase was Aqueon.  We bought a 3 ounce plastic jar of the Goldfish Granules.  These granules are said to be made from all natural ingredients and colors, and great for fish tanks and small ponds.

Aqueon Goldfish Granules have a screw on/off lid which is bright orange.  The top of the bottom is pretty wide, so be careful if you choose to pour food directly into the tank from the jar, as you could easily dump way too much in.  My only complaint about the product is there is no option on the lid to have a smaller pouring surface.

The granules are supposed to be "slow-sinking."  This is the first granule style food we've purchased for the tank, and to me, they sink fairly quickly.

The granules are a medium-light brown and uniform in shape.  They're rounded cubes which unless you look very closely, appear to be simply round.  They are  about the size of a pin head.  The bottle has a picture of the food in a pile on the front, which is pretty accurate.

Odor
Aqueon Goldfish Granules have a typical fishy smell (they are made out of fish meal after all).  It's not overly offensive, but the fish sure do smell it immediatly after it hits the water.

Usage
We dump a little in the tank 2-3 times per day.  Our large gold fish (named Agent Orange) goes crazy for them, sucking them down as they sink to the bottom.  Then, he'll suck up the granules on the bottom, along with gravel, spit the gravel out, and eat the granules.  He loves them.  

Even our Ropefish has been eating them off of the bottom.  This is a fish which is hard to find these days, and ours is about 19 years old.  He usually eats minnows or tubifex worm cubes, but loves Aqueon Goldfish Granules also.  He uses his little nose to push aside gravel and get a granule.  It's entertaining to watch.

Our feeder fish, minnows, will also nibble at the granules.  They're small enough for the larger minnows to eat, but the smaller ones can take a bit of a nibble once they soften.  They still get the flake food, which is better for the smaller guys.

Aqueon Goldfish Granules don't cloud the water or really make a mess.  A few will get caught in the plants, but either a fish or the filter will clear it out eventually.  

Cost and Availability
We purchased the 3 ounce jar of Aqueon Goldfish Granules at PetSmart for just a few dollars.  This size, which is the smallest they had, lasted a few weeks, then we went back and got the big jar.  Given how much the fish like it, and the fact that Agent Orange is a pig, we needed a larger amount!

Final Verdict
If you have some larger fish in your tank, then I'd recommend feeding them some Aqueon Goldfish Granules.  They're a great size for common fish like goldfish, made with quality ingredients and no artificial colors, and our fish love them.
