Pros:An excellent gift for the autograph collector in your life
Cons:Holding 30 baseballs, this is not for everybody--including the casual collector
The Bottom Line: Go Braves!
Sports have always been a big part of my life. Baseball, football, tennis, basketball....I've played them all and still keep up with my favorite teams today: following them on television, radio, in-person or via the web. However, the only team I'm "religious" about is the Atlanta Braves. I live and (mostly in October) die with them each season....I just really love the team.
Another love of mine is collecting autographed baseballs. I have been collecting them ever since my very first major-league game, and still today (dragging my girlfriend with me) stake out Turner Field in Atlanta before and after the games we attend in the hopes of adding another Chipper Jones or John Smoltz (retired, but still around via broadcasting) graph to my collection.
This Atlanta Braves Framed 30-Ball Logo Display Case (while not an autograph, itself) has been a very nice addition to my collection. Naturally, I have more autographs of Braves' players than any other team, and this case, with its see-through Braves logo on the front, makes for a very attractive way to display (show off) some of my Braves autographs.
Of course, if the Braves (may God forgive you) aren't your favorite baseball team, every other major league team has its own logo case, too. Even the new york yankees (who are not deserving of capitalization) have one.
As I said, this case is quite attractive: the frame of mine is mahogany--and its look meshes very well with such an old, traditional game--but they also have brown and black frames available, too. The front of the case is clear acrylic, its shelves are solid black (five shelves total holding six baseballs apiece), and it looks VERY nice mounted on the wall. Of course, you can also set and display this case on a bookshelf, coffee table or countertop.
All in all, this makes an excellent gift for anyone who collects autographs. It is tailor-made for any guy's den or game room. The only negative I can think of is that not every collector out there is going to need a 30 baseball, team-specific (!), case...taking this into consideration, I am rating this product with four stars
Case Specs: (I'm taking these from the site I purchased mine at)
The display is made of 1/8th inch acrylic. The base and back of the display are black acrylic and the front, sides and top are clear acrylic. Measures 22" x 4 1/2" x 25". Made by Mounted Memories.
These cases sell for $189.99; they can be purchased at amazon.com and mountedmemories.com (I'm certain other online sites carry them as well). If you would like to save some money, and don't have to have this case right now: go to Mounted Memories' site. You can join their mailing list and they will notify you via email whenever they are running a sale (For example, as I'm writing this on June 24, they have a ten percent Father's Day sale going on thru June 30 on all items over 100 dollars).
Finally, tips for protecting your autographs:
If you want your autographs to last throughout your lifetime: buying this, or any other case, is not enough. Store your autographs in a room completely out of the glare of direct sunlight. Do not shine artificial light directly onto your autographs, either. Finally, keep all autographed memorabilia stored at room temperature. These tips aren't foolproof, but they will help you with preserving your memories.
