My husband and I decided to try our hand at camping, but did not want to go the tent way. No way was I going to sleep on the ground! So we decided to go with a new Pop-Up Camper, we wanted to make sure we were going to like this being "Weekend Warriors".

In April of 2000 we purchased a new Coachmen Hunter 086 equipped with a furnace for those chilly nights.
So the adventure begins... Towing the camper was a lot easier than we thought, no problems there. We arrived and found the perfect spot to set up our new investment. Set up time took about about 30 minutes, we wanted to make sure that we were doing everything right. After using it a few times we got setup time down to about 10 minutes top. The hardest thing about setting it up is cranking it up, your arms get tired. Next slide out the end beds, make sure the canvas is pulled out over the corners or bed has to be pushed back in a little to bring them down so you can latch the bungee to the hooks provided under the bed to keep the bugs out. Next slide in safety beams (these keep pop-up from falling down on you in case something is not right) , unlatch door from ceiling, snap into place, flip sink up, insert rods into pole and push out to completed the bed end ceilings. Camper sleeps 6 , dinette makes third bed, opened size of camper is 17 feet.
Another word of advice when breaking down always make sure you put the door up before pushing beds in, because the door doesn't go back up when beds are already in closed position and make sure that if it is raining you have your pillows away from the edges, because you may get a few leaks along the seams. Furnace works fairly well at the time it is running, but a tent camper just doesn't hold in the heat, so bring some extra blankets if it is going to be chilly.
We enjoyed several camping trips in our Hunter 086 until we decided that it was time to upgrade ourselves to something with more room and a bathroom.
