We purchased our Westlake only 3 months ago and to date have used it on 2 weekend trips. First to the lake and then to Palo Duro Canyon. On our outing to the lake we were bombarded with winds gusting up to 60 mph. A late March cold front had come in unexpectedly in the night and we were very impressed with the ability of the heater to keep us warm. The trailer was quite stable and we were comfortable in it but with the concern that it might be damaged and the forcast that the winds would continue we closed it up and came home. It towed well in a 45 mph headwind if we kept the speed to 55. Over that it fishtailed, but afterall the combined wind speed was 100 mph.
On our second outing in the canyon we arrived at the camp site with the temperature at 111 degrees. Again we were pleased with the quality of the construction and the fact that within half an hour of turning on the air conditioning we were comfortable. The electric brakes did great going down the steep incline into the canyon and we were comfortable with pulling it all the way down in 1st gear at the posted 20 mph speed limit.
One of our concerns was with pulling it out of the canyon with our 1999 Chevy Astro with a 4300 V-6. Kept it in 1st coming out with air conditioner off and ran 12 - 15 MPH clear to the top without any noteable movement of the temperature gage. Our next trip is to Albuquerque and we have plans to have a transmission cooler installed on the van before we go. We travel loaded with full water tanks (hot and cold), propane, battery and all the options so even though it is a "pop-up" it is no little trailer. It is 15 feet long and almost 2 feet wider than the Astro. For its size and weight it tows and tracks remarkably well.
This is our second pop-up. We bought it knowing what we wanted and it has proven to be all we hoped for and then some.
