Since I could not find any Epinions listing for starcraft pop top campers, I put my review of the 2001 Starcraft model 2107 here. Please pardon any inconvenience.

In April, 2001, we purchased a pop-top camper
from Colerain RV in Cincinnati, Ohio. So far we
have used the pop-top twice for a weekend
campouts. We have been pleased with the quality
of the pop-top and the service of the dealer.

The model that we bought is a Starcraft 2107. This
model has 1 large pullout bed and 1 small pullout
bed. Also, 2 more can sleep on the couch and the
dinette. Our model also has a refrigerator but no
furnace or A/C.

Some of the things that we liked about Starcraft was
the aqualon canvas, the construction of the unit, and
the floorplan. We were also impressed with
Starcraft's reputation for long-term reliability. We
also compared the Jayco which is made by the same
company at a different manufacturing facility.

The dealer also included an add a room screen room
and awning a part of the deal. Including the hitch
for our mini-van, we paid about $5800. We called 2
other regional dealers to compare price and felt the
price that they were giving us was competitive.

We also spent about $250 on accessories that we
wanted to start off with. The most expensive were 2
bunk fans/lights since we don’t have A/C. Also, we
purchased a 30 amp extension cord, water hose, and
"max-air" vent cover.

After we got home with the pop-top, we noticed that
one of the screen door covers was not properly
constructed. We took it back to the dealer for an
exchange.

We also had a problem with the wiring for the hitch.
The fuse for the blinkers on our van kept getting
blown about a week later. The dealer fixed the
circuitry for us as this was related to the hitch
installation.

Since this was our first camper purchase, we have
learned a few things on our 2 weekend campouts.
The first is that to get water to properly drain from
the sink, you might need to adjust the inside drain
hose to make sure it points straight down to let
gravity do its work.

Right now, I am giving 4 out of 5 stars to the dealer
and the product. I feel long term reliability and
service after the sale will determine if I should rate
them a "5". I plan to update this review with
additional information as I have more experiences
with our camper.

We have now used our starcraft pop-top camper 7
times and I would like to pass on additional
experiences and recommendations. The 3 areas that
will address are battery/electrical; the add-a-room
tent that connects to the awning, and the screen door
lock. The battery/electrical issue also addresses the
level of service that we received from our dealer. If
any of these 3 areas interest you, see below.

Battery/electrical
On our 5th weekend camping trip, we went to plug
in the camper and was not getting any power except
some of the exterior lights. After doing some
additional checking of fuses and outlets, we
determined that it was an electrical wiring problem
with the camper.
We called our Starcraft dealer, Colerain RV, and
they advised us to bring it in after our trip to get it
fixed. We dropped off our camper the day
that we returned from our trip. The service
department representative contacted us to ask for
more details about the problem. He advised us that
there were many other campers ahead and it would
be about a week until anyone could look at it. We
felt that since this was warranty work for a
brand new camper, we were entitled to faster
service than that. For example, the letter that we got
from Starcraft states "While other companies may
make you wait, we'll try harder to get you back on
the road in record time". Anyway, we called our
salesperson who talked to the service manager to get
it looked and fixed that very day. It turns out that
the problem was the ground wire was not properly
attached to the frame. I'm not sure if this
was a manufacturing defect or a problem with the
battery installation by the dealer. The lesson is to get
the service from your dealer that Starcraft promises,
you might need to be persistent.
Speaking of the battery, I somewhat regret that we
added this option. So far, all the campsites that we
have went to have electric. And when we do try to
run the lights off of battery, they are not nearly as
bright as when hooked to the DC.

Add a room
The Starcraft add-a-room is a "tent room" that
attaches to your awning. I think this option costs an
additional $200-$300. I have not been pleased
with this option either for the following reasons-- it
is somewhat heavy, it is hard to setup, and we
already have a couple small tears in it when we
encountered heavy winds.

Screen door lock
Our screen door lock has already worn out and we
have ordered a replacement which will be covered
by the warranty. I also received an email from
another Starcraft owner who has already had the
screen door lock replaced twice. Anyways, kudos
to our dealer for giving us an upgraded door lock
when the first one failed!

Updated information added (October 2006)
We just finished our 6th year of camping with our Starcraft 2107 pop-top camper. This year we camped in rain a lot of times. On one occasion, we left the Starcraft supplied dining table outside in the pouring rain. Unfortunately, this caused the table to eventually warp and some deterioration. We had no troubles ordering a new one from our dealer. It cost about $80 for the replacement.

Also, given that the camper is still doing fine after six years, I am changing the product rating from 4 to 5 given the long-term durability. As stated before, I still recommend against the add-a-room and having a battery hookup. Good luck with your camper search!
