We bought a 2000 Coleman Cheyenne in 1999 and simply love it.
Towing:
It is easy to tow with a v6 Nissan Pathfinder. The dealer installed a hitch to the frame and a round-7 connector which powers the camper's electric brakes.
Features:
I really like the full-sized screen door, which is a welcome change from the 2-part doors seen in other brands. The door is stored inside on the roof, and is easily dropped into position.
The storage trunk is a big plus because it allows you to pack things you don't need constant access to while camping like tools, wheel chocks, shoring wood, spare food. When not popped up, the trunk is accessed by a top lid, which makes it easy to load heavier items such as coolers (which increases tongue weight for towing stability). Once the front bed is pulled out, access is provided through a side hatch and from the inside of the camper, so it is important to unload big things prior to set up.
I like the swing-level galley. Unlike models where the galley is hinged and stored upside-down, the swing level galley keeps its upright orientation while storing. This means all your soap, spices, cutlery, etc. stays where it is rather than flipping over.
I regret the fact that the camper does not have a roof vent, so things can get hot inside. Do remedy this, I bought 2 cheap 12v clip-on car fans from Target. The standard cigarette lighter plug would not work in the 1/4 phono jacks used for DC power, so I made my own adapter from 1/4 phono jacks bought at radio shack. Now we have 2 clip-on 2-speed fans we can plug into the ceiling lights and position just about anywhere.
We had a cabnetry problem. The large drawer under the couch must have gotted a lot of jarring from towing, and the rear track mounts broke. The mounts are made of plastic and hold up the far end of the drawer track. I fixed this for good by using blocks of wood that sit on the floor, and screwed deck screws through the track into the wood.
The Cheyenne comes with a high-pressure exterior stove, which hooks up to the side of the camper and accesses the high-pressure propane. Very handy for cooking food that requires a lot of heat, such as boiling water for corn, or for frying.
Ours came with an awning, which is easy to set up. I'd recommend 2 people when setting up or taking down. You can also get an add-a-room which basically adds a set of walls and skirting to the awning, converting it into another "room" of sorts. Might be handy for storing the coolers and porta-potty, and would probably make a good breezeway during buggy or rainy times.
Overall, I would recommend this model to anyone who is tired of tent camping and is looking for a high-quality and easy to use tent trailer.
