If you're looking for a temporary home on wheels under 5,000 pounds and $20k, you've got to consider the Airstream Bambi 2000 by Thor despite the seemingly high price tag and scanty living space. If, for no other reason, it should be considered because this trailer won't depreciate in value down to 10-20% of the original cost by the end of your lease the way so many other trailers will. In fact, if you avoid accidents and keep everything in tip-top ship-shape, this limited edition, practically hand-crafted has the potential to appreciate in value (depending on the ol' economy and various other "Acts of God").
The high-quality construction, artful design and efficient livability of the Airstream Bambi 2000 is cause enough for many lenders to finance 'em for a full 15 years. The banks will max out most moto-mortgages for TTs (i.e., travel trailers) at 5 or 10.
This can be towed by most reasonable vehicles (it's the only modern Airstream under 5000 pounds), and comes with the whole shebang -- bathroom, kitchen & bed.
Downside is, it's small. A close couple would find it great for short jaunts. Extended periods of dual occupancy would probably wear thin. For a single person and a small pet, this would be fine for getaways as long as a month or two if not longer. You've got to imagine that you're paying space-age homage to Skylab for longer stays.
The other obvious downside: It's also pricey, considering the limited size. For the same price, you get get a huge lightweight Shasta with pullouts! But ya get what ya pay for. The Airstream Bambi will still be around in 25 years (barring accidents, global collision with a comet or other catastrophic events).
The Airstream Bambi 2000 is solid and proven by the test of time to be road-worthy and long-lasting -- especially when given the love and attention it deserves. It's not just a trailer -- it's a work of art and an icon of American pop culture.
Keeping the shine may drive you nuts, 'tho. Every fingerprint and pebble-nick might drive the alumino-obsessive a little mad. If you don't mind polishing the aluminum exterior frequently, after all you're gonna fall in love with your Airstream Bambi 2000 and treat it like a worshipful fetish object, so much more value-holding power to you.
