A bit ghetto, but worked well

Pros: good gas mileage, sunroof, rear wiper
Cons: white wasn't really white, ghetto transmission, no cupholders!
The Bottom Line: It is a nice car that drives well

I had a 1990 Acura Integra LS automatic hatchback for four years and about 45000 miles, in addition to the 74000 miles already on it at the time of purchase in 2003.

GENERAL INFO ABOUT THE 1990 ACURA INTEGRA
It is available as a 2-door hatchback or a 4-door sedan, in RS, LS, and GS models, with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic (the GSR hatchback that arrived in 1992 was only available with a manual transmission). This generation lasted from 1990-1993.

RS standard features

power sunroof (2-door only)
power windows and locks (4-door only in 1990, the 2-door got them in 91)

My car had an aftermarket JVC AM/FM/tape/CD player

GSR's were equipped like the GS 2-doors, but it didn't come out until 1992.

The RS, LS, and GS Integras all come with a 1.8L B18A1 engine that made 130 horsepower in 1990-91 and 140 hp in 1992-93.  The GSR came with a 1.7L B17A1 engine that made 160 hp.

EXPERIENCES WITH THE CAR
PROBLEMS:
Heater core (when it rained, the floor would flood)
Transmission died after three years ("S3" loght blinked and you had to shift it manually, and overdrive would not engage)
Aftermarket alarm system quit, resulting in the alarm going off randomly, even while driving!
windows fogged really bad
heat, AC, and defrosters didn't work well
automatic seatbelts quit
needed a new catalytic converter
radiator cracked
had an oil leak
dome light never worked
rear aftermarket speakers died later on
white car wasn't really white

All in all, not too bad for four years.  The floor flooding only happened in the last year of ownership, and the transmission was only ghetto in the last 9 months. AFter the S3 light started blinking, the transmisison would start in second gear, unless you shifted it manually (start at the L and then shift it to S). The seatbelt stopped working early within having the car, but this is pretty common among most automatic seatbelt systems. The transmission was the reason for dumping the car.

The white paint on the car wasn't actually white; it looked more like a dirty polar bear.  The interior was blue.

Non-mechanical aspects of the car

First of all, there are no cupholders! Unacceptable! Especially in a "luxury" brand! (OK, OK, they resolved this in 1994)

The front seat has enough room. While not the greatest, the backseat is pretty good for a small sporty car, and it's even better in the four-door.  Still, three seatbelts are not needed back there (in either version).  The rear seats fold down 50/50 to provide ample room for carrying cargo; this is further aided by the hatchback layout of the car (but the 4-door is not a hatchback--only the 2-door). The sunroof is large enough, but it doesn't have a tilt feature. The car has manual windows and locks which always worked. The driver's door will not lock unless it is closed.  This prevents locking the keys in the car.

The ride quality is pretty good, especially considering its age and mileage. It was a bit firm, but the car rides very low to the ground, so this is expected. It isn't harsh, though. Again, this car was 15 years old and 100,000 miles.  Some people may encounter difficulty getting in and out of the car.

The heat, air conditiong, and defroster take a long time to get working.  The rear wiper only covers about half of the window.  Although once it is warmed up, snow traction is acceptable.

Although there were some problems with this car, it lasted four years. That isn't bad at all. The lack of cupholders would be the only real dealbreaker.
