How to Haul a Baseball Team

by ensignbetsy: Written: Jun 08 '08

Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: price, reliability, comfort
Cons: wiring, engine light cannot be diagnosed
The Bottom Line: This van just might last a lifetime.

I am the proud (sometimes) owner of one of the original soccer mom vehicles. Most days I love it, although there are some problems.

I inherited the 1990 Plymouth Voyager from my dad when it became necessary for me to carry around most of a baseball team.

I have the LE version which can comfortably seat 7 people. The base and SE versions only seated 5. This meant that I could carry half the team by myself.

I could also carry the concession stand supplies in the back although loading through the hatch is a little uncomfortable. Unfortunately there are no rear doors, only the hatch.

I find it a little cumbersome to remove the back 2 seats and definitely can't do it by myself. This is a two person job.

The two front doors and slider on the passenger side are much better designed and more comfortable to use.

Even with 142,000 miles, my Voyager still rides like a car. I also still get good gas mileage, about 17 mpg,

I have ridden in every seat in the van and they are all comfortable. We have taken 5 adults on long trips with no one complaining.

The step up to enter the van is a little tough for shorter or older people but still doable. I keep a small step stool in the Voyager and with it my 90 year old grandmother can even make the climb.

The van is almost 15 feet long, so it is not like driving a car, but the maneuverability is good.

The biggest problem that I have had is a recurring problem with the engine light coming on. Although it doesn't seem to indicate a huge problem, I have never been able to get it properly diagnosed.

I also had a small problem with the wiring where my Voyager would stall in the rain, but this was easily fixed.

The Voyager that I have has a 3.3L V6 engine which I have never had a problem with and a 3 speed transmission.

I really can't complain much about my experience with my 1990 Plymouth Voyager. It has even sat for half of an Ohio winter and started right up with one turn of the key.

If you have small loads to carry, or baseball teams, I would highly recommend this as a vehicle to check into.
