Upon reading the other reviews of this car, I cannot say I disagree with any points therein. We purchased our 1990 wagon in 1994, and have been driving it ever since, across half a dozen states in every kind of weather. This car has literally been something of a second home to us. Its standard fabric interior has withstood the onslaught of two large dogs, and two very disorganized humans, remarkably well. We've consistently averaged in the 20 mpg range, which of course could be better, but seeing as how we never change the oil and frequently forget scheduled maintenance, and it's only broken down once in nearly a dozen years, I'd say the tradeoff is pretty good. If you are looking for a car that won't stop, this is a good candidate.
One mild irritation is that over the years some of the plastic interior detailing has come loose, and one of the door open sensors is broken, but that also is a small price to pay for such dependability. We did have to replace the starter once, and recently the timing belt, but that was scheduled to go anyway. Also, the rollup cover to the hatch area has come apart, but we just drape it over any cargo like a tarp and it works fine.
All in all, if you come across with one of these cars with 100,000 miles or less on it, you should take a serious look at it. Drive it around. It's smooth and very stable on the road, even without 4 wheel drive. Maybe yours will become your second home like ours did.
