Having purchased my 200 quattro with 162,000 miles on it about 18 months ago, and having just totaled it with 172,000 miles on it, I decided to look at what others thought of the car when researching my next vehicle (Subaru Outback). Finding an utter lack of reviews, I decided to leave my own...
This car is strait up fun to drive. At the heart os a 2.2 litre turbocharged 5 cylinder engine, producing more than adequate torque. Living in Montana, the quattro AWD was a necessity, and never failed me in all the winters. With studded snow tires, this car is a tank, and cannot be stopped. It even outperforms some of the newest Audis in the snow... But because it is a sedan, it can't compete with SUVs, but as far as cars go, it is unbelieveable.
The Achille's heel of this vehicle is its reliability. But I suppose that with a high quality German cruiser of this cailber, age, and miles, that is what is to be expected. In my mere 10K miles, I had the power steering pump, some shifting valve, the rear axle/differential, and some other things that I cannot remember going out. So, for a $4000 car, paying half of that in about a year is not that much fun.
I loved this car in the snow and off, but if you want something more reliable, perhaps look elsewhere...
