I didn't even know this model existed until about three weeks before I bought it. I needed a car, and a friend of mine who knew me well suggested that I get an MX-6. Without knowing much about the car, I decided that it must be fun to drive since it's made by the same company that makes the Miata, so I bought one.
I have had my 1993 2.0 Liter 4 cylinder 5 speed manual trans MX-6 for about 5 years. I got it used with 105000 miles and it now reads about 184000. I am very satisfied with this car. I have consistantly driven it hard, but I have also been very good about scheduled maintainance. The engine is still as smooth and lively as it was when I first got it. No drivetrain problems, and I am still consistantly getting better gas mileage than the EPA estimates. The only problems it has had are typical things that would be expected of any car (brakes, struts, CV joints, etc.) The only real quirk that comes to mind with this car is the driver's side door lock freezes in the winter. This is compounded by the fact that the alarm goes off if I attempt to unlock the passenger side door with the key. Good thing I live and work in good neighborhoods, because I must leave the car unlocked durring the winter!
I plan on keeping this car untill the day it must be turned over to a junkyard. Whether that's months or years away. I can afford a new car, I just choose not to get one since this one is such a pleasure to drive and continues to be reliable enough to drive accross country every year.
