I inherited this 4Runner from my father in 1999 when my Honda Civic was totaled. He gave it to me so he could buy a 2000 4Runner. My father takes GREAT care of his vehicles, and when I got this baby it only had 37,000 miles on it. It now has 118,000 miles and it still is a looker. I did have the head gaskets replaced under the recall at 53,000 miles and had the timing belt replaced also to save cash. At 80,000 miles the radiator was replaced. At 109,000 miles the motor on the antennae was replaced. At 118,000 miles I had the steering fluid pump replaced, the timing belt replaced, and the automatic transmission flushed. I have been noticing that till then it took a little bit longer for the tranny to "warm up" and start shifting normally. So far, with the transmission flush it is back to normal.
This truck has a classy look with just the right amount of chrome. My father had accessorized it with a Toyota grill guard, window sill extensions, and running boards. He stacked it with the alloy wheels, electric "everything", and sunroof. I am a LUCKY MAN to have this great vehicle.
I travel to various satellite clinics all over south east and central Texas, and no matter how bad the weather is, I know that this truck will get me there.
In terms of transporting the kids, (my wife has the Mazda MPV van), going off road, getting me to bicycle races and just "banging around town" this is the best vehicle I have owned. I am spoiled by its quality and multitasking.
I did change out the off road tires for a smoother tread and now can routinely cruise at 80 MPH with ease.
Next up, I am thinking of putting a FlowMaster exhaust system on it.
The Toyota dealership here in town is not holding its breath for me to buy a new vehicle, because they know this baby is just "getting broken in" (their own words).
