When I first saw the 4 runner I had to have it. I wanted a 4 wheel drive anyhow, and loved the look of the Toyota. Only 93 and up. Older models are boxy, where as the newer are a bit more sleek in style.
I own a 1993 v6 silver fully loaded 5 speed 4Runner.
I love the way it drives. They do make a noise when you turn to sharp out of a parking space, but I have been told all toyota trucks do as well, and it has never caused a problem. It is a bit bumpy in the way that it rides, but it is an suv! I would compare the ride to a truck, not a car. I think as suv's go it handles very well. When I have to use 4wheel it works like a dream.
I love the sun roof in this thing. It is huge. There is also a small heater for the back, as it can get a bit chilly back there. The back window rolls down from inside, or with a key. You have to have the window down to open the back. I do wish there was a compartment to store more stuff. There are 2 one on each side to fit a few things. I have my cleaning stuff on one side and maintenance stuff on the other. So it fits what you really need.
As seating goes it is roomy if you are not a big person. I love it and my husband gets annoyed with it. The seat are comfortable, and there is a lumbar control. The back seat fits 3, 2 comfortably. I have also fit 3 car seats in it. Very tight fit.
The cup holders are in a bad place. Right in front of the vents. They are great for being in arms reach. If you have the cup holder full you can not see the heat and air controls however. The glove box is huge, and the arm rest is also a compartment for stuff. There is also a small compartment under the ashtray for change, pens and stuff.
The stock stereo is pretty good for stock! It has a cd player and tape player. I am planning on adding an amp and some better speakers, but that is just because of what I prefer.
I would get another. I need another because my husband who was against Toyota(chevy man) is always driving it. We both agree that it could have more power. If you are towing a boat you will be wishing for a v8 instead of the v6. It is a bit sluggish when going up hills or taking off. It does at least tow boats, and we have had to tow friends cars also.
I have to give Toyota credit, there vehicles do last longer. I am over 100,000 miles and have yet to experience a problem. I just maintain it as any other vehicle! Timing belt should be kept up, because if it breaks you may have some costly damage. It does get bad gas mileage as with any suv. I would say about 15 miles to the gallon. All in all I love my 4runner!
Just to update, I now have 200,000 miles on my 4 runner and had to replace my fuel injectors and one of the window switches. I still can not complain. I did also replace my timing belt , but we do that every 70,000 miles to be safe. Also the brakes and clutch have been replaced. Not bad when most other vehicles would be in a junk yard by then.....
