There are certain qualities you look for in a first vehicle - you look for one that is forgiving; one that is simple to take care of; one that can help you learn about taking care of cars.
Well, as I'm sure you've guessed, this is my first vehicle. a 1994 Toyota Pickup X-tra Cab. I got it six months ago, have put about 30,000 miles on it. Last time I checked with concern, it was around 248,000 miles. That's alot of miles for a car to still be running, but leave it up to Toyota to build a vehicle that will keep going, no matter what.
Those no matter whats seems to really add up, too. This poor truck has been "four-wheeling" (even though its definitely not 4WD,) has had just about every imaginable part tinkered with, ran out of oil, had ME run out of energy... the list could go on and on. What I'm trying to say is, this truck will last through it all. It has to be taken in for standard things, oil changes, air filter replacement, etc etc etc. But, no major problems with the car itself.
I love this car. It drives extremely well, even under rain, hail, and ice. I have rack and pin steering, with a manual transmission, which has worked out wonderfully for those long trips to LA or the coast. Even after all these miles, it still runs almost....new!
