I bought this vehicle because I was leaving for college and needed something reliable to visit my parents who live 100 miles away. The reason why I chose a Civic is because my 6 brothers and sisters all have either a Honda or an Acura (ideally the same company). I have heard of Honda's dependability and good reputation.
I love my car! Not only does it get me places, but for a young person like me it looks great! But this does not imply that this car is suitable only for young people. I've seen a LOT of older people driving Civics and I think they look good in the car also. The Civic is perfect for someone who needs a car for a small price.
I bought my 96 Honda Civic for $6500 and only 30,000 miles. I thought that was quite a catch. Not only is the car itself cheap, but insurance is pretty cheap. This is something young adults must worry about especially if they have a bad driving record. I pay $475 for 6 months full coverage with a bad driving record.
Another thing is this Civic is a money saver because of the gas. I'm guessing I get about 39 mph for highway and 36 mph for city.
Even though the car, insurance, and gas is cheap, the car is expensive when it comes to maintenance. I've heard of Hondas of staying away from the shop, but you must get your occassional tune-up which just cost me $350.00. From where I live I also found it difficult to find a repair man that actually knows what they're doing. I go to an actual Honda Dealer, which might explain the high costs. Parts are also a little higher-priced and difficult to find.
I've only had one problem with my Civic and it dealt with the Airbag. I researched in Consumer Reports, and it said the airbag becomes faulty on Hondas; they're not too wonderful with them. It cost me another $360 just to get my SRS system fixed.
Driving a Civic I find to be good. It's hard at first because of the Racquet-Pinon steering, but once you get used to it you'll realize it is better. Racquet-Pinon steering gives you full control when turning or just driving in general.
The engine is quite small, the size depending on the model you choose. But unless you decide to go racing, I see no need for it. My car is actually quite fast for this small engine and low horsepower. It can go 0 mph - 60 mph in probably 7 seconds.
Although the engine size may be small, the inside is very comfortable and roomy. The trunk size is perfect. When I moved to college, I fit all my belongings (including a computer system, 19" TV) in the car with room to spare, and that's with a coupe.
Overall, this car is a wonderful car. My sister has 1992 Honda Civic and my brother has a 1997 Honda Civic. Neither has had any problems, and both are satisified with their purchase. I recommend this car to anyone, especially those who can't afford the expensive cars.
