We bought the car for $5000, a 1996 GXE with about 50k miles on it. It had been in a minor fender bender and was repaired. The car currently has about 76k miles on it. The alternator went out at about 60k, we were told that it was built small and ran fast and was engineered to fail at about that time. The tensioner pully for the serpine belt in the engine fell off. I went to the dealership and they said that they fall off all the time and they had a pile of replacement ones. We had the alternator rebuilt, I think it was about 30-40$ for the rebuild then about 40-50$ to install. The tensioner pully was about 100$. A few days ago the cover for the catalytic converter partially fell off and was dragging on the ground, I wired it up but it makes a horrible racket. Will have to take it in and get it welded. It is an econobox and rides like one. The stereo works fine but is not anywhere near loud. The cruise control works good and deviates somewhat due to hills(about 7 mph.
