Saturn SL1... Buy It and WE GOTCHA!

Pros: good gas mileage when it runs, air conditioner is still working
Cons: Motor lasted only 50,000 miles.
Warranty too short 36,000 miles.
The Bottom Line: I would never recommend this car. Saturn isn't consistent when standing behind their products. They might fix mine, but not yours even if we have the same problem.

Our 1996 Saturn was working fine... until this past Tuesday. Then it just stopped. We had it towed to Saturn after talking to THREE other people who had head problems with their 96 Saturns. They told us how helpful Saturn was and that they would offer some assistance in fixing the motor since we only had 50,000 miles (even though the warranty is 36,000) We thought about it and called the Saturn assistance team. They encouraged us to take it to the dealer and they looked at our car. What a crock! After telling us that we had to pay $330 just for looking at our car, they told us that the car wasn't under warranty (which we knew) and that because we hadn't had the oil changed at a Saturn dealership, they could not fix the motor regardless of how many miles. So, we could pay $330 just for them looking at it or we could pay $2,188 for them to repair the motor. They got us! Now - You can buy a Saturn and take your chance or learn from our mistake and stay clear of that place. We took very good care of our car only to have bad valves cause some kind of chain reaction that damaged the motor at 50,000 miles. (That's driving it 10,000 a year - very little miles) They offered no assistance to us. BUYER BEWARE EVEN WHEN BUYING A NEW SATURN!
